Inter are leaning more and more towards the possibility of sending striker Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea at the end of the current season rather than extending his loan.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri’s concerns regarding the Belgian’s fitness and performance levels are starting to reorient them towards declining the keep him for next season.
There is little doubt that Lukaku has failed to live up to expectations this season, although Inter’s intention has always been to give the 29-year-old time to find his feet after his injury problems, and wait and see whether his form picks up.
However, as the amount of matches in which to finally cast away the doubts grows smaller for Lukaku, so does the Nerazzurri’s patience.
The club still have not made a decision as to whether or not they will negotiate a new loan deal with Chelsea, but according to the Corriere, they are increasingly considering not doing so.
