Former Lazio and Torino goalkeeper Luca Marchegiani remains skeptical that Inter striker Romelu Lukaku is particularly close to being back to his best.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the former keeper argued that the Nerazzurri striker is still not really improving, and that he is not having a decisive impact on matches as he once did.
The jury is still out on whether Lukaku’s recent appearances for Inter back from injury have shown the Belgian getting close to where he can be a decisive force in attack for the rest of the season.
A lack of goals or assists has been damning, whilst the best periods in terms of holdup play and overall impact on matches has tended to be something that the 29-year-old has needed time to play his way into over recent appearances.
For his part, Marchegiani believes that Lukaku still has a long way to go if he is to show what he’s truly capable of again.
“I’m trying to see whether Lukaku is improving, and I still don’t see any real improvements,” he argued.
“In my opinion he’s in better condition physically, he’s able to get involved in the matches more and make himself an option with his teammates looking for him, but he still doesn’t look as decisive to me as he had before,” he added.
