Former Juventus and Napoli midfielder Massimo Mauro feels that the comments made by Inter striker Lautaro Martinez in the aftermath of the team’s Serie A loss away to Bologna on Sunday afternoon deflected the blame onto his teammates.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInter1908, the former midfielder argued that the Argentine was as culpable as anyone for the match, and that he should have taken more individual responsibilities when addressing the media after the match.

Martinez was the player who faced the press after Inter’s disappointing loss away to Bologna this weekend.

The Argentine was frank in speaking of the team’s performance not being up to the required level, and emphasized that they will need to honestly assess their failings and find ways to work even harder.

However, from former midfielder Mauro’s perspective, the 25-year-old should have turned his focus to his own poor performance more.

“I’m a fan of Lautaro, but I wasn’t a fan of the way he spoke after the match,” he argued.

“He was putting the blame on his teammates, but he wasn’t really putting it squarely on himself.”

“Lautaro was as much to blame as anyone,” Mauro added, “just look at the free header that he missed, two weeks ago he would’ve put that away.”
