It is no longer certain that Inter will extend the contract of striker Edin Dzeko beyond the end of this season.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that negotiations are currently paused between the Nerazzurri and the 36-year-old, with the club proposing a new one-year contract and the player seeking a two-year deal.

Inter have already probed whether or not Dzeko would be willing to extend his contract.

There were talks in January from which the player’s desire to stay emerged, although there is still some way to go before an agreement is found.

The Bosnian former Roma and Manchester City striker would like a two-year contract extension, and it would remain to be seen if he and the Nerazzurri can find an agreement on the length of any new deal, as well as on wages.

In the background, there are clubs in Major League Soccer who are interested in signing Dzeko.
