Inter defender Matteo Darmian feels that losing to Juventus yesterday was made all the more difficult by the fact that it came as a result of what the Nerazzurri players saw as an incorrect refereeing decision.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, the 33-year-old gave his reaction to a frustrating defeat including the refereeing controversy surrounding the Bianconeri’s first-half goal.

The Derby d’Italia against Juventus is always one of the biggest matches of Inter’s season.

It is certainly a match that has had a history of contentious moments and refereeing decisions, as well as an intense atmosphere and flashpoints between the two sets of players.

So it proved yesterday evening, as the Nerazzurri were left venting about the decision to allow Filip Kostic’s match-winning goal despite an apparent handball in the buildup.

From Darmian’s perspective, it is a loss that is hard to take on any number of levels.

“We’re certainly very disappointment, in general losing is never enjoyable,” he said.

“There’s also the fact that the match was decided by a refereeing decision,” Darmian added.

“I don’t think I really need to comment, it was evident what happened.”
