If Antonio Conte were to return to Inter to replace Simone Inzaghi as coach, the future of Marcelo Brozovic at the club could dramatically change.
This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who suggest that, with the former coach back on the bench, the club may not look so likely to sell the 30-year-old during the summer transfer window.
In recent months, Brozovic’s status at Inter has shifted dramatically.
A combination of injuries to the player, the emergence of Hakan Calhanoglu as a starting-quality regista, and a rift with the club has made it appear quite probable that the Croat will be on his way if the right offer arrives in the summer.
However, a key reason for this has been that Inzaghi has looked as though he is ready to transition away from Brozovic being a fixture in the starting eleven.
Under Conte, Brozovic had been a pivotal player in all senses to the Nerazzurri’s style of play, and it is unclear whether the 53-year-old would sanction a sale of the midfielder.
A lot would likely depend on whether or not Conte felt that Calhanoglu is the right option to play at the base of the midfield trio as Inzaghi does.
If he were to prefer Brozovic in the role, the Gazzetta suggests, the Croat might stay at Inter after all.
