Legendary former Inter defender Marco Materazzi believes that this Nerazzurri side will have every chance of reaching the Champions League final.

Speaking to the club’s official YouTube channel, via FCInterNews, the 2006 World Cup winner suggested that the Nerazzurri must be confident because of who they are, even in the face of a tough match against Benfica tomorrow.

Inter will feel that they have a good chance of reaching the semifinals of the Champions League tomorrow given the two-goal advantage that they take into the match against Benfica from the first leg against Benfica.

Then, if the Nerazzurri can get to the final four, they know that they will face Milan in the next round.

This will hardly be a straightforward tie for Inter, but there could be a feeling that they’ve gotten a bit of fortune to avoid teams like Manchester City and Real Madrid from the other side of the bracket.

“It was a fantastic night in the first leg,” Materazzi said of the tie against Benfica, “it was important to win but it’s more important tomorrow.”

“We have more than 70,000 fans on our side, but we have to stay switched on for ninety minutes because any team can score at any minute.”

“We have a great opportunity to go to the semi-finals and then the final, why not?” the former defender posed.

“Anything can happen.”

“We have a two-goal lead, we’re in a good situation – I think the guys can get it done, even though they lost in the league on Saturday.”

Of the challenge posed by Benfica, Materazzi said that “They’re a good team, but we’re Inter and we’re playing at home, so we have to win.”

“It doesn’t matter who plays,” he added.

Of who he expects to be the decisive player tomorrow, Materazzi said “I hope they’re the forwards, we need their goals.”

“Bastoni is a good defender like I was, it’s expected that a player like him can make great assists.”

“Darmian and D’Ambrosio, for example, were fantastic against Porto, what really matters is the group, the squad,” Materazzi added.
