Inter coach Simone Inzaghi feels that there was no lack of confidence after the first half of their Serie A clash with Lazio, even in spite of the fact that the team went in at the interval a goal behind.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the 3-1 win over the Biancocelesti, via FCInterNews, the 47-year-old stressed that he still believed that the team could go on and get the result based on the performance that they’d put in, and was proven right.
When Inter went in at halftime trailing by a goal despite dominating in terms of possession and attempts against Lazio, they may well have thought that it was a move that they’d seen before.
The Nerazzurri have been frustrated to lose a few matches in the league in recent matches where they had looked to be the team in the ascendancy by and large, and being 45 minutes away from another will have been a daunting prospect.
However, Inzaghi has always stressed that he’s been happy with the team’s performances even when they’ve failed to get results, and he continued to back them in this afternoon’s match.
“We played an extraordinary match, the guys did very well,” Inzaghi said, “they played very well for 96 minutes.”
“I’ve talked with the guys over the past few days,” he went on. “We were playing against a strong team, who also only have to play once per week.”
“At the end of the first half I was very calm, because the way the team looked on the pitch, they were doing everything to win,” he continued.
“Inter were great and fully deserved the win against a very strong opponent.”
Asked if it’s a regret that so many players have been missed to injury throughout the Serie A season, Inzaghi replied “Absolutely, yes, because, playing so often, it feels like the immediate post-COVID situation when we were playing every 48-72 hours.”
And of the form and fitness of striker Romelu Lukaku, who made two assists against the Biancocelesti, the coach said that “He’s doing very well, as everyone else is.”
“He and Brozo weren’t yet ready for the Supercoppa in January, but since then we’ve been using them more, everyone has to give their all.”
And of Napoli’s anticipated Serie A title win, Inzaghi said “Congratulations to the club and the staff, and to Spalletti for the consistency they’ve achieved.”
“Full credit to them, and it’s only right that they get to celebrate,” he added.
