Inter coach Simone Inzaghi agrees with Nerazzurri Beppe Marotta that the team’s season has been a positive one on balance, even with the less than stellar performances in the league at times.
Speaking in a press conference following this afternoon’s 3-1 Serie A win over Lazio, as reported by FCInterNews, the 47-year-old concurred with Marotta that the overall season has been a good one for the Nerazzurri up to this point.
Inter CEO Marotta spoke before this evening’s match, and the executive struck a broadly positive tone as he emphasized that even without the Serie A title it has been a positive season so far for the Nerazzurri.
A lot could still depend on how the remaining matches go in the campaign, with Inter fighting for all of top four in the league table, the Coppa Italia, and a place in the Champions League final.
However, from Marotta’s perspective, there is plenty to be positive about, and Inzaghi agrees, stating that “He expressed his thoughts, and I agree.”
“We’ve gone on an extraordinary run in the Champions League and the Coppa Italia, we’ve dropped a lot of damaging points in the league, but we’ve experienced some brilliant emotions with our fans.”
“Today we they pushed us on a lot to help us get the result, it didn’t feel like we were chasing a goal with them pushing us on,” he said of the fans.
Asked if Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez are now considered the starters in attack, Inzaghi replied that “Inter have four starters, namely Lukaku, Correa, Dzeko and Lautaro.”
“They’ve all taken turns, and I’ve been happy with all of them.”
“I’ll decide between them from match to match, I want to get the best out of all of them,” he added.
“I don’t know if we could have gotten the Lautaro that we did in the second half if we’d had to play the way we did up to December [with only Martinez and Dzeko fit], he’s a player who always goes at two thousand miles an hour,” Inzaghi said.
Of Joaquin Correa and Francesco Acerbi, Inzaghi said that “I’m happy with both of them, Acerbi picked up a knock making a slid tackle today but he didn’t miss a minute.”
“Correa is giving us a big hand in terms of rotations, and look at the goal against Benfica too,” the coach added.
Of what facing his former team Lazio means to him, Inzaghi said that “Twenty-two years are not soon forgotten, every moment there helped me to grow.”
“I will always be grateful to the President who gave me an opportunity, and to the fans who once again came here to cheer on their team,” he added.
