Inter Milan are planning to discuss the contract extension of coach Simone Inzaghi after the team return from their preseason tour of Japan.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri and Inzaghi will aim to work out a new agreement before the start of next season.

To date, Inzaghi has not signed an extension to his deal which runs until the end of next June.

The 47-year-old had signed that one-year extension last summer. This was a reflection of the club wanting to continue on with the 47-year-old following his work in his first season in charge.

Now, all signs would seem to point towards another extension. Despite stumbles in Serie A, Inzaghi guided Inter to the Champions league final last season.

Moreover, the Nerazzurri won both domestic cups under the former Lazio boss’s stewardship.

And in any event, Inter CEO Beppe Marotta is not someone who makes a habit of going into a season with a coach who’s one year away from his contract expiring.

Inter Milan To Discuss Contract Extension With Simone Inzaghi In Coming Weeks

During yesterday’s preseason press conference, Inzaghi hinted that he’s already discussed the matter of his contract with the club.

The coach stated that the club know exactly his stance. And furthermore, that there is no rush or anxiety regarding the matter.

According to the Gazzetta, Inzaghi would like a pay raise to reflect his work last season. Particularly the team’s exploits in Europe.

And for their part, the club are ready to sit at the table and hammer something out.

However, for now there are other matters that everyone is focused on.

For their part, Inter’s directors have full focus on the transfer market. There is more than a month left in the summer window, and the Nerazzurri have a number of crucial pieces of business left.

Both in terms of sales and signings, Inter have work to do to complete the squad for Inzaghi.

As such, that is the club’s priority.

And for the coach’s part, Inzaghi begins working with the squad again in training starting today. Then, later this month he’ll take the team on their preseason tour of Japan.

Once that’s over and done with, however, the Gazzetta report that Inter and Inzaghi will recommence contract talks. They’re aiming to have the coach on a new deal come the start of the season.
