Inter Milan skipper Lautaro Martinez will reportedly receive some rest in his side’s weekend fixture against Salernitana.

The 26-year-old has thus far started in every match of the season throughout all competitions. He now has six goals in seven appearances.

However, the Argentinian appeared to be short on fitness during the team’s 1-2 defeat at the hands of Sassuolo.

The captain failed to display his best football on Wednesday, suggesting that the player could use some rest in upcoming fixtures.

So according to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will leave Lautaro on the bench on Saturday.

This would allow the captain to recharge his batteries ahead of the Champions League encounter against Benfica on Tuesday night.

Therefore, the source expects Inzaghi to unleash a new attacking partnership in Salerno. Alexis Sanchez could finally make his first start since rejoining the club last month.

The Chile legend would line up alongside Marcus Thuram who will maintain his spot in the starting lineup.

On Wednesday, the 34-year-old replaced his French teammate in the second half. But the scoreboard remained unchanged. So this time around, the two strikers will have the chance to work side-by-side.

Nevertheless, Martinez will certainly be part of the traveling party. Thus, Inzaghi would surely thrust his captain if the team is still chasing a result in the second half.

The match kicks off on Saturday, 20:45 CET, at the Arechi Stadium in Salerno.
