Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is happy with the progress in the Champions League represented by yesterday’s win over Red Bull Salzburg.

The Turk spoke to UEFA TV after the match, via FCInterNews. He called the win “one step closer to the round of sixteen.”

Inter are now on seven points after three matches played in their Champions League group.

That is the same total that La Liga side Real Sociedad are also on.

Meanwhile, Salzburg have three points – they beat Benfica in their opening match before losing to La Real and Inter.

And Benfica have yet to pick up a single point in the group. They have fallen to defeat against all of Salzburg, Inter, and La Real.

It definitely looks like it’s shaping up to be the Nerazzurri and La Real vying for the top spot in the group. But at the same time, nothing is over yet.

Salzburg, in particular, are essentially one result away from getting their foothold in the group back.

Inter travel to the Austrian capital to face the same opposition in a couple weeks’ time.

So that match will not be one without potential peril for the Nerazzurri. But at the same time, it would also be an opportunity to stake their claim in the next round.

Inter Midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu Reacts To Salzburg Win

As far as whether the team are now close to the knockouts, Calhanoglu said “Yes, one step closer.”

“We will have time to prepare for the return match,” he noted of the clash with Salzburg in Austria.

“Now we have an important match against Roma,” he noted.

“We’re first in Serie A and we want to stay there, we have to continue to work and do better.”

“Then we’ll see how it goes in Salzburg,” the midfielder added.
