Inter Milan are ready to extend the contract of teenage midfielder Luca Di Maggio.
This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the 18-year-old’s agent recently made a visit to the Nerazzurri headquarters to discuss a new deal.
Di Maggio is not currently under senior professional contract with Inter.
But the teenage midfielder has been impressing with his performances within the Nerazzurri’s youth academy system.
Therefore, Inter are increasingly determined to tie Di Maggio down to a new contract.
So far this season, the 18-year-old has been one of the main men for Inter’s Primavera team.
The Nerazzurri have been shining at the Under-19 level. They currently lead the way in the Primavera league table, where they are one point ahead of city rivals AC Milan.
Coach Christian Chivu has recaptured the form of a couple seasons ago with this crop of players.
And teenager Di Maggio has been right at the heart of it.
Inter Close To Extending Contract Of Young Midfielder Luca Di Maggio
According to FCIN, there was a meeting with representatives of Di Maggio in the past couple days.
The purpose of this meeting was clear. The Nerazzurri want to secure the 18-year-old’s future with a senior professional contract.
Inter’s intention is for Di Maggio to put pen to paper on a five-year deal until the end of June 2028.
And according to FCIN, that is already very close to happening.
Inter should officially make Di Maggio a senior Nerazzurri player soon, at least in terms of his contract status.
But the 18-year-old will certainly continue to play regularly for the Primavera team. They have recently qualified for the UEFA Youth League under Chivu.
However, a call-up to the senior squad may not be too far away.
Di Maggio could well be rewarded for his outstanding performances at youth team level with some performances for the senior team.
