Inter Milan defenders Francesco Acerbi and Matteo Darmian have been rewarded with contract extensions, despite neither initially seemingly being in the club’s long-term plans

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, and via FCInterNews.it, the Italian international pair have forced their way back into the reckoning for the 2025/26 season after impressive campaigns this term.

Both Acerbi and Darmian had been in the final years of their respective contracts at the Nerazzurri and looked set to be released as free agents in June, but the club’s financial statement shows that they have both renewed for an additional season.

It comes as a surprise after there was no mention from the club of a contract extension for either player, despite Inter publicly announcing renewals for Nicolo Barella, Federico Dimarco, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan earlier in the campaign.

Nevertheless, both Acerbi and Darmian will remain at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza next season after proving to be stalwarts in coach Simone Inzaghi’s team.

Acerbi, 36, joined Inter on an initial loan from Lazio in 2022, whilst Darmian arrived on loan from Parma in 2020 before making his move permanent the following year.
