Inter Milan defender Stefan De Vrij could be set to leave the club in the summer amidst interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, and via FCInter1908.it, the Netherlands international is unlikely to remain at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza beyond the end of this season.

De Vrij’s contract is due to expire in June and whilst Inter have an option to extend it by a further year, this has yet to be triggered and it is becoming increasingly likely that he will be released.

The Nerazzurri would like to bring in a younger option next season, with De Vrij due to turn 33 in February, and have already begun sounding out options.

In addition, they would prefer to get his wages off the books and free up funds for new acquisitions.

De Vrij, meanwhile, has been attracting attention from Saudi clubs since last season and it is reported that the former Lazio defender could now be tempted to make the move in the final years of his career.
