Lautaro Martinez was among the big name players not to live up to their reputation in yesterday’s loss to Juventus by Inter Milan.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They also single out the likes of Federico Dimarco and Alessandro Bastoni.
There is no sugarcoating yesterday’s match for Inter.
The Nerazzurri lost in the Derby d’Italia, always one of the biggest fixtures on their calendar.
Moreover, it was an opportunity squandered to go ahead of Napoli in the Serie A table. Instead, Inter fell further behind the league leaders.
Lautaro Among Big Names To Fall Short In Juventus 1-0 Inter Milan Serie A Loss
It was not necessarily a horrid performance by Inter Milan.
Certainly, compared to losses to AC Milan and Fiorentina in the league this season, the Nerazzurri offered a lot more.
But it was Inter’s big name players who really failed to step up.
Inter captain Lautaro Martinez has been in blazing form in front of goals for much of 2025. He had seemed to put questions about his consistency in scoring to rest.
However, the Nerazzurri captain wasted all his chances yesterday.
It was the fifteenth match against a “big” team in Serie A this season. And Martinez has found the back of the net in just one.
Meanwhile, the Gazzetta argue, Alessandro Bastoni and Federico Dimarco were relatively anonymous.
The newspaper suggest that neither deserved to stay any longer than the hour that they did.
