Napoli considered a sensation summer swoop for Inter Milan starlet Francesco Pio Esposito, reports from Italy claim.

According to today’s edition of Libero, via FCInter1908, Napoli began to plot a move for Esposito after the injury suffered by Romelu Lukaku in pre-season.

The former Inter striker will miss months of football and Antonio Conte’s side decided to make a move for a replacement.

The Neapolitan club eventually settled on Manchester United outcast and former Atalanta star Rasmus Hojlund.

According to the reports, Conte specifically requested Pio Esposito after Lukaku’s injury.

Napoli regard the Inter striker as a complete centre-forward who perfectly fits what Conte needed.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis reportedly agreed with the idea.

He was rumoured to have prepared an offer of over €40 million for the youngster.

However, a move did not materialise.

Instead, Chivu decided to make the talented forward his third-choice attacker for the season.

Form and fitness concerns are likely to crop up over the season.

Therefore, Pio Esposito may find himself getting all the minutes he needs with Inter.
