Cristian Chivu is preparing to reshuffle his Inter Milan squad for Sunday’s Serie A trip to Genoa as the Nerazzurri look to quickly put the narrow Champions League defeat to Liverpool behind them.

According to Tuttosport, rotation is not only a response to fatigue and injuries.

However, it is also a part of a broader plan to rediscover the intensity shown against Como and manage resources ahead of the Supercoppa.

Within the space of nine days, Inter “have the chance to erase two painful memories linked to the Inzaghi era,” the Turin-based daily notes.

Winning at Marassi, something that never happened under the previous coach, and “bringing the Lega trophy back to viale della Liberazione.”

The immediate focus, however, is a Genoa side rejuvenated under Daniele De Rossi.

Indeed, one described as having “restored confidence, security and grit to a squad that had looked deeply depressed under Patrick Vieira.”

Chivu is expected to change “half the team,” with two enforced absences already confirmed in Calhanoglu and Acerbi.

Beyond that, several big names could be rested.

Mkhitaryan, Luis Henrique and Marcus Thuram are all candidates to start on the bench.

Meanwhile Alessandro Bastoni’s situation remains under evaluation.

Although the defender “may need a breather,” Tuttosport suggests the Italy international is still likely to start.

Indeed, alongside Akanji and Bisseck.

One of Chivu’s key achievements in recent weeks, the paper underlines, has been “expanding the pool of potential starters.”

With the emergence of Luis Henrique and Diouf, and the revival of Zielinski.

In midfield, the Pole is expected to operate in the regista role.

Therefore, Sucic is tipped to return as a mezzala and Carlos Augusto deployed on the right.

Up front, Ange-Yoan Bonny is set to replace Thuram.

Meanwhile Pio Esposito remains on standby, “waiting for the right moment to restart his engine.”

The message from Appiano is clear: rotation is not a sign of weakness.

Instead, a necessary step to keep Inter competitive on multiple fronts.
