Serie A heavyweights Inter Milan have yet to decide whether to offer veteran center-back Stefan de Vrij a new contract.
According to Corriere dello Sport via FCInter1908, the Nerazzurri could renew the Dutchman’s deal contrary to expectations.
Largely expected to leave San Siro at the end of the season, Stefan de Vrij has entered the final year of his contract.
Furthermore, his departure seemed like a foregone conclusion until recently, especially given his current first-team wobble.
Indeed, the 33-year-old has tumbled down the pecking order under Cristian Chivu, becoming Inter’s fifth defensive option.
Inter Milan Yet to Decide Whether to Renew De Vrij Contract
Despite his impressive performance against Bologna on Friday, De Vrij could still depart Inter next month.
Indeed, the former Lazio star is desperate to feature for the Netherlands in next summer’s FIFA World Cup.
Therefore, he cannot afford to spend the second half of the season on the bench.
Though a winter exit remains on the cards, there’s also a chance that Inter could offer the Dutch ace a new deal.
However, it’s entirely up to Chivu to decide.
