Italian journalist Riccardo Trevisani believes an Inter Milan victory in the Derby della Madonnina would surely signal the end of the title race.

Unfortunately for the Nerazzurri, their European campaign came to a premature end in February.

Cristian Chivu’s men failed to beat Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League play-off round. They suffered a humbling 2-5 defeat on aggregate.

Nevertheless, Inter have been reigning supreme on the domestic front. They are comfortably marching towards the Scudetto title, while their competitors have been faltering one by one.

At this stage, AC Milan are considered the last remaining threat to their crosstown rivals. And yet, Max Allegri’s men have been dropping points left and right in recent weeks, which allowed Inter to open a massive 10-point gap.

Therefore, the Derby represents the Rossoneri’s last chance to revive their fading title hopes. The two arch-rivals will lock horns on Sunday evening.

While a Milan victory would light up the title race ahead of the remaining 10 rounds of the season, a win for Inter would do the exact opposite.

Riccardo Trevisani Believes Inter Milan Can Effectively Win The Scudetto In The Derby

Trevisani insists that the Nerazzurri can place the final nail in the title race’s coffin with a Derby victory that would blow Milan away from contention.

“If Inter wins the derby, they would open a 13-point gap. Therefore, they would practically be the Italian champions, without any ifs or buts,” argued the journalist during his appearance on Sport Mediaset via FcInterNews.

“Such a lead would be unrecoverable. But if Milan wins, they go to minus seven, win another direct clash, and put a bit of pressure on the Nerazzurri.

“Then, they might have a say in the title race after all. And that’s why you never know how it will end.

“Lest we forget, the Serie A ended in a surprising way last season (Napoli overtook Inter in the final rounds).

“The derby will certainly be decisive. Of course, the Inter seen against Genoa looked like a juggernaut.”

Another Scudetto title for Inter would raise their tally to 21, thus widening the gap with Milan.

The Rossoneri have 19 titles in their trophy cabinet, so they remain one short of a second star.
