Inter Milan star Federico Dimarco has cemented his status as one of the most creative players in European football this season, with a remarkable assists record that places him second among all players across Europe’s top five leagues, behind only Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise.

The wing-back has contributed 14 assists across all competitions, with Olise the sole player to better that tally on 16.

It is a staggering return for a defender and yet another indicator of just how central Dimarco has become to everything Cristian Chivu’s side produce going forward.

The Serie A-specific numbers add further context to an already extraordinary campaign, as noted by FCInterNews.

Dimarco Shines As Inter Creator; Only Bested By Olise

Dimarco is one of only five players since 2004/05 to register more than five open-play assists and more than five from set pieces in a single Serie A season, eight and six respectively this term.

The combination of those two skill sets in one player is exceptionally rare, and it explains why opposition sides find him so difficult to neutralise.

He is a constant threat both from open play and dead-ball situations, and no team in the division has found a consistent answer to what he offers down the left flank.

With ten games of the Serie A season remaining, further additions to those totals look likely.
