Beppe Bergomi finds it odd that Inter Milan are still leading the Serie A charts despite their recent shortcomings.

The Nerazzurri were enjoying a commanding 10-point lead heading into the Derby della Madonnina against AC Milan.

However, they suffered a defeat at the hands of their closest chasers due to Pervis Estupinan’s solitary strike.

Cristian Chivu’s men were keen to bounce back. However, they ended up squandering a slim lead against Atalanta and Fiorentina.

These results have allowed Milan to reduce the gap to just six points. The Rossoneri would have crept even closer if it weren’t for their defeat to Lazio 10 days ago.

Therefore, Inter’s next few contests will be absolutely crucial. Either they return to winning ways and dispel all doubts, or extend their negative streak, giving the opportunity to Milan and Napoli to get within striking distance.

After the international break, a big showdown awaits Inter, as they’ll be hosting Roma. The contest will take place at San Siro on Sunday, April 5th. It kicks off at 20:45 local time. After their clash against the Giallorossi, Chivu’s men will make the nearby trip to Como for another meeting against a Champions League hopeful.

Therefore, Inter’s April schedule will begin with two tough fixtures.

Beppe Bergomi Worried About ‘Fragile’ Inter Milan Ahead Of Final Stretch

As for Bergomi, he can only hope that his beloved team doesn’t suffer a similar late-season collapse to last term, as he reckons that the team is vulnerable at the moment.

“For me, it’s almost a miracle that Inter are up there, given the circumstances,” said the 1982 World Cup winner in his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews.

“But right now, they’re fragile. They’re no longer playing their football.”

“Some players are dropping off because they’ve carried the load, others have just come back (from injuries) and are struggling, and some simply haven’t performed.”

Bergomi feels that the Nerazzurri are dearly missing their captain Lautaro Martinez, who remains on the sidelines, nursing an injury.

“Lautaro is fundamental, but the team has to make a mental shift and turn the negativity around. To move forward, they need to forget they’re six points clear.”

The good news for Inter is that the Argentine superstar could make a timely return against Roma.
