Inter Milan and Atalanta are reportedly going head-to-head for the services of highly rated Modena defender Daniel Tonoli.

According to Tuttosport via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri are set to rival La Dea for the 23-year-old’s signature.

Daniel Tonoli came through the Inter academy before leaving San Siro in 2021 to join lower-league outfit Virtus Bergamo.

However, he has enjoyed a rise to stardom at Modena this season, emerging as one of Serie B’s highest scoring defenders.

Indeed, Tonoli has netted five goals in 29 league appearances for the Canaries, drawing inquiries from several top-flight clubs, including Inter.

With several veteran defenders on the verge of leaving San Siro, Beppe Marotta is in the market for defensive reinforcements.

Indeed, Francesco Acerbi, Matteo Darmian, and Stefan de Vrij have failed to earn contract extensions.

Therefore, they’ll all sever ties with the Nerazzurri in June.

Meanwhile, Inter have already earmarked several high-profile targets, including Oumar Solet and Tarik Muharemovic.

However, Tonoli could be an exciting option for Inter, especially considering his arrival wouldn’t require a significant financial outlay.

Still, Cristian Chivu’s men face stiff competition from Atalanta, with Tonoli reportedly leaning toward a move to Bergamo. Indeed, he has been a lifelong fan of La Dea.
