Hakan Calhanoglu may have to agree to reduce his salary if he is to sign a new contract with Inter Milan.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri are open to extending the Turk’s deal, but on one condition.

Calhanoglu’s future was one of the major talking points last summer.

Indeed, Turkish Super Lig giants Galatasaray were eager to lure the 32-year-old away from San Siro.

Furthermore, they even held talks with the player’s agent, Gordon Stipic, over a potential move to Istanbul.

However, Cristian Chivu convinced the skilled midfielder to stay at Inter for at least one more season.

Inter Milan to Extend Hakan Calhanoglu Contract on One Condition

Calhanoglu’s current contract runs out in 2027. Meanwhile, it’s also worth noting that the former AC Milan star remains one of the club’s highest earners.

Indeed, Calhanoglu takes home an eye-watering €6.5 million net per season. However, the runaway Serie A leaders are eager to reduce his wages.

As for the player, his stance remains uncertain, with Galatasaray keeping a close eye on his situation at Giuseppe Meazza.

Moreover, Calhanoglu’s recurring fitness problems have cast further doubt on his long-term prospects in Serie A.

He has missed 16 out of 45 competitive games this season due to injury.
