Inter Milan are exploring a potential free transfer move for Lorenzo Pellegrini, as the Roma and Italy midfielder edges closer to the end of his contract with the Giallorossi.

According to FcInterNews, the interest remains at an exploratory stage with no concrete talks between the player and the Milan club at this point.

Pellegrini has long been admired by Inter.

And, indeed, with a renewal at Roma appearing unlikely given the current climate at Trigoria, he is set to become a free agent in June.

The Roma captain suffered an injury yesterday that will keep him sidelined for around a month.

Therefore adding further uncertainty to his situation.

Roma Man Pellegrini Eyed As Inter Milan Plan Summer Rebuild

Inter are planning a significant squad overhaul this summer.

It is reportedly primarily focused on defence, but the midfield could also be reshaped.

Particularly if Henrikh Mkhitaryan departs on a free transfer at the end of his contract.

Pellegrini is seen as a potential replacement for the Armenian.

While also bolstering Inter’s quota of Italian players in their squad lists.

Indeed, following the expected exits of Acerbi, Darmian and potentially Frattesi.

Currently earning around €6 million per season, Pellegrini is unlikely to command a similar figure at his next club.

Inter hold him in high regard, he is approaching 300 Serie A appearances and remains a regular for the national team.

However, whether that admiration translates into a formal approach remains to be seen.
