The former Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso was ecstatic as well as nostalgic about the upcoming Milan Derby as he recalls ones from his past stint with the Nerazzurri. Speaking with La Gazzetta dello Sport the Olympiacos Piraeus player shares his insight on the upcoming Milano Derby in contrast with Athens Derby
“The derby in Athens for the fans is a kind of disease, and in Milan it is a special moment in the league. More than other times I see a derby which is studied and planned, but only the beginning. At a certain point, Milan will be obliged to risk something more as they need to. ”
He later went on to answer other questions regarding his former club,manager,teammates and the transfer market.
You’ve seen Italian football the same as Mancini from the view of the Premier League, has it changed?
“The Premier League will not change in regards to passion, but the balance: their football is just one piece of your life, in Italy, it is more than one piece.”
Do you defend the team in their transfers regardless of the fact there is ultimately no more players arriving?
“The market in January is too hard and it has changed the way we communicate: I do not know if it is the case for Mancini, but do not rule it out.”
Knowing them both well: who is driving more toward the victory: Mancini or Mihajlovic?
“Mancini is crazy for he did not play this derby. Sinisa is a warrior: fights a lot, when under pressure always gives the maximum. Roberto, beyond the last result, is firm and is still in 3rd place which is the stated objective of the company. ”
But Inter from before: Sick of the winter retreat in the heat?
“And to think that the South Americans are also back before New Year! Joking aside: the year of the treble had gone into retreat when in Abu Dhabi.”
Who is coming into this derby more distressed: Milan or Inter?
“The power of the mind is incalculable: we must do with that state of mind out of their Italian Cup races. If we look at the whole season, I think the team has created uncertainty which has been an inconvenience at Milan. Inter have had more consistency, more balance and a coach who was never questioned: these are the things that bring the three points. And now Inter and Milan have the points they deserve.”
And who is playing more for something on Sunday night?
“AC Milan lost the first derby, playing at home, and are behind in the standings. And they are ranked farthest from initial expectations than Inter.”
Often 1-0 wins for Inter was a calculated risk or has it become simply a gamble?
“Football is a game: Choose how to play your cards right, then everything is a gamble. There is no right or wrong way: it would be wrong if Mancini or Sarri one morning woke up and wanted to do the opposite of what has been done before. Imagine Guardiola suddenly saying: today we play long balls instead.”
Who wins the Scudetto?
“After 38 games, only those who deserve it: I always responded well, even when I was behind.”
What is missing from Icardi to get to their level?
“Mauro is more an area type player, a pure finisher: Higuain has Milito in him. They are against the cliches and he seems too be an easy target. He scored 8 goals and hi projection at the end of the season is about 15: is 15 so few?”
Certainly Balotelli marks less: would have thought that in 2016 would be still so incomplete?
“For him, to do certain goals was like drinking a glass of water and some things are not lost, but football is not just that. No one knows what could happen, I know that Mario still has time to do at least important things.”
A derby of the heart?
“The films that I would write for a derby, would be the most emotionally intense: 3-2, goals from Adriano 92′.”
The most beautiful thing you remember in a derby played?
“It reminds me of a thrill: something special, more than beautiful. The penalty save from Julio Cesar to Ronaldinho.”
You will return to stroll around the center of Milan as manager?
“Coaching is in my head, but to start a story with Inter is neither hope nor a possibility: only one thing that can happen, and maybe happen. But if you want to become a coach, only one thing you know for sure: you do not know where you will do it. ”
