Santos are hopeful that they can announce the signing of Gabriel Barbosa on loan from Inter next week. According to ESPN Brazil, Gabigol’s former club have managed to convince Inter to lower the fee attached to the loan to €600,000.

The initial plan was to announce the 21-year-old on Christmas day as a Christmas present to fans but due to finances had to postpone the announcement which lead to them finding the aforementioned new agreement.

Gabigol has struggled to perform in Europe in the 18 months since his €30 million transfer to Inter. This season, in a bid to grant him more playing time and help him adapt more to the European game, Inter took the decision to loan him to Portuguese giants Benfica. Gabigol was however unable to convince Benfica management and made limited appearances which has lead to his spell being cut short and Inter searching for a new club for the Brazilian.
