Inter Milan Vice-President Javier Zanetti feels that the team have yet to really realize how big their Serie A title victory is.

Zanetti spoke to InterTV after the Nerazzurri clinched the title with a derby win over AC Milan, via FCInterNews.

It was a fiery Milan derby, even by the standards of the fixture.

Particularly at the end, tempers started to fray. That resulted in three red cards – one for Inter, and two for Milan.

The Rossoneri players showed their nerves as they clearly began to understand the implications of having their city rivals celebrate the title under their noses.

And the Inter players looked full of motivation as they aimed to clinch the title in the derby – something that has never been done before in history.

In the end, Inter held out for a 2-1 win.

That is only one result among many this season, as the Nerazzurri have been ruthless and consistent.

But what matters is that Inter have won the Serie A title for the twentieth time in their history.

Inter Vice-President Zanetti Emotional After Serie A Title Triumph

“It’s incredibly emotional to finish a journey that began years ago,” Zanetti said.

“We’ve done an extraordinary job. It’s a very well-merited title win.”

“We have a great working culture,” Zanetti said. “A cohesive group, both on and off the pitch.”

“This recognition is well-deserved. Inter have been competitive for the last 4-5 years.”

The Inter Vice-President said that “You can win some and lose some. But Inter have won this title totally deservedly.”

“They’ve shown great mental strength.”

“We’ve been strong in every single match,” Zanetti went on. “The gap between us and the other teams has been clear all season, but even tonight Milan didn’t want us to clinch the title.”

“They gave everything and we beat them,” he said of the derby victory.

Of clinching the title in the derby, Zanetti said that “The guys still don’t realize how important of a page they’ve written in the club’s history.”

“I’m the Vice-President,” he added. “But also a fan.”

“I was in the stands with my family. It’s a moment we won’t ever forget.”
