Inter Milan are Champions of Italy for the 20th time after beating city rivals AC Milan on Match Day 33 of the 2023/2024 Serie A season at the San Siro.

Inter started the first half carefully conceding possession to AC Milan who retained it without creating anything of substance.

As the half wore on Inter worked themselves into the game and broke the deadlock in the 18th minute via a Francesco Acerbi header from a corner.

The Nerazzurri created two great chances, sitters even, but both were squandered by Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram respectively. The half ended 1-0 to Inter.

The second half began in the best way possible for the Nerazzurri when Marcus Thuram doubled Inter’s lead in the 49th minute.

The game died down with neither side creating much. That is until the 80th minute when Fikayo Tomori pulled one back.

However, despite pushing on AC Milan failed to score and Inter Milan write history: first time the Scudetto secured in a Derby Della Madonnina clash in the Serie A at the second time of asking.

As in 2007/2008 Inter had the chance to secure the Serie A against AC Milan but lost 2-1. Back then AC Milan were the home team, just like tonight.

However, this time Inter wrote history: Serie A title number 20 secured in a Milan derby against AC Milan.

Inter Milan Serie A Champions For 20th Time

This was Serie A title number 20 for Inter Milan, and their second league title in four years. Their last Serie A title came during the 2020/2021 season under Antonio Conte.

This was Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi’s first Serie A title in his coaching career. It is also the Nerazzurri coach’s sixth title as Inter Milan coach.

He has since taking over the reign at Inter from Antonio Conte in the summer of 2021, won the Coppa Italia twice, and the Supercoppa Italia thrice.

His latest Supercoppa Italiana trophy came earlier this year in January. That was his fifth Supercoppa Italiana title overall. He also won the trophy in 2017, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023.

The first two of those wins came as Lazio coach, defeating Juventus on both occasions. The following three wins have come against Juventus, AC Milan and Napoli respectively.

Last season the former Lazio coach also led Inter Milan to a second Coppa Italia title in as many years, beating Fiorentina 2-1 in Rome’s Stadio Olimpico.

That was Inzaghi’s third Coppa Italia win. His first Coppa Italia win came as Lazio coach in 2018/2019, after a 2-0 win over Atalanta. It was Inter’s 9th Coppa Italia title overall.

His second came as Inter coach defeating Juventus after Extra Time, by 4-2 in Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, in 2021/2022.
