Matteo Darmian is the slight favourite to start for Inter Milan on the right flank in tomorrow’s derby showdown with AC Milan.

This according to Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper reports that right-wingback is the only position where there is any doubt regarding Inter’s starting eleven for the derby.

Throughout this season, it has been fairly clear what the first-choice starting eleven is for Inter.

That does not mean that Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi has never rotated his team.

More often than not, the coach’s policy has been to make one or two changes at a time. This has allowed key players to rest and the coach to freshen up the team, but the overall identity of the team to remain.

Then there have of course been injuries. Inzaghi has had to use the full squad at his disposal both in terms of the starting eleven as well as substitutions to cope with absences.

But in big matches, when everyone has been available, there has been a fairly clear pecking order.

But there is one position where Inzaghi has switched things around.

Matteo Darmian Slight Favourite To Start For Inter Vs AC Milan

Both Darmian and Denzel Dumfries have played a fair bit of minutes at right-wingback this season.

Darmian has more Serie A minutes this season – however, the versatile former Manchester United defender has also played a fair bit at centre-back, and even at left-wingback.

So counting only right-wingback, the Italian and Dutch international have played a roughly equal number of minutes.

In recent weeks, Darmian has been starting more often in big matches.

However, Dumfries started in the second leg of the Champions League round of sixteen against Atletico Madrid.

According to Tuttosport, Inzaghi is still considering which of the duo to start against Milan tomorrow.

But the newspaper report that it is Darmian who is likelier to start.
