Technical director Marco Branca spoke to Sky Italia in the build-up to Inter v Cagliari. He was first asked if he was surprised with how quickly the team have gone back to competing: “We thought we might need a little more time but in terms of our ability, we knew we’d made the right signings. We’re happy it’s happened more quickly than expected, it’s all down to the great work of Andrea Stramaccioni.”
The technical director was then asked about the league table, which reads very well at the moment, might prompt the Nerazzurri into buying in January: “It’s not down to where we are in the table but there are other factors to consider, but at this moment in time there’s no way we’ll be investing in January for other reasons. It’s the same situation in many other industry sectors. We’re in an economic crisis.”
Finally, a word on Wesley Sneijder. Branca was asked whether Sneijder has less power in dictating his contract terms now the team are playing well: “He’s got a contract with us, so I don’t think we can talk about contractual power. Even if there were other things to discuss relating to his contract terms, they wouldn’t be due to the team playing well or not. Is it true we’ve asked him to take a pay cut? That’s our business.”
