Inter’s focus was on charity this evening as Javier Zanetti’s Fundacion Pupi and Ivan Ramiro Cordoba’s Colombia te quiere ver hosted the Gran Galà at the Hotel Melià in Milan.

The Nerazzurri skipper took some time out to answer questions from journalists about Inter’s targets for the season after yesterday’s win over Napoli. “Our aim is to battle for the Scudetto right down to the wire,” he explained. “Yesterday we beat a great side and that’s an added boost to the confidence we have in our ability. We want to be in the running until the very end. This Inter team has always had its own identity, even when we lost. And after a defeat we’ve accepted it and moved on. The path ahead isn’t easy but we’ll fight to try and stay up there. The title race isn’t just about us and Juventus though: Roma, Lazio and Fiorentina are all in with a shout. Me playing in front of the defence? I enjoyed it.”

Moving onto the topic of Wesley Sneijder, the captain explained: “We all know what he’s given Inter, there’s no question about his talent. He’s going through a personal moment where he’s deciding what to do and whatever happens it will be in his and Inter’s best interests. What would he miss out on if he left Inter? Sneijder knows that Inter are a great family, it would be hard for him to find an atmosphere like this anywhere else.”

Zanetti hopes that his Foundation “can keep growing,” but what are his hopes for Inter? “That we can achieve something great come the end of the season. Lazio? They’re doing really well, but we’ll go there looking to play our game. I feel fine, the club and my team-mates help me to feel good. The thing I like most about this team is our humility. All we need is to be a bit more consistent. Stramaccioni is doing a wonderful job, he’s only at the start of his career but he’s very well prepared.”
