He’s called Wellington Aparecido Martins and has suddenly become one of the hottest names for Inter’s midfield. As Cellino has become increasingly impossible in his demands for Nainggolan, Inter have decided to also follow other tracks. One of these leads to the São Paulo midfielder. Our partner fcinternews.it got an exclusive interview with Marco Aurelio Cunha, one of the leading members of Sao Paulo’s board and a candidate in the upcoming presidential election. Here are his words:

Marco Aurelio, is there an interest from Inter for Wellington?

“I know that Inter wanted Wellington a year ago. I was at one point asked questions about him. I said he’s a good player in addition to being a great guy. He has a strong will and very good technique, he plays as captain of Seleçao’s U-20. He’s very good.”

How is his ownership distributed?

“It’s a mess. There is some belonging to São Paulo and another belonging to Atletico. I’m not too familiar with what the proportions are.”

Is he a completely different player compared to Paulinho?

“Inter want the player. He’s very good, an honest guy inside and out. According to me, the world’s second-best volante (Portuguese term for a midfielder who plays in front of the defense ed.). Paulinho is the best and I recommended him to Marco ( Branca ed.) a year and a half ago, but now he has gone to Tottenham. Wellington isn’t the same type of player, but it’s still a great midfielder.”

How are the relations with Inter after the long and exhausting negotiations for Lucas?

“When Inter called to talk about Lucas, they asked also about Wellington. They showed a strong interest since he was young, had the will and the technique. I explained to Branca and the others at Inter that he’s a good guy. Now, I don’t know exactly how it is.”
