Campagnaro: “There is a lot of qualilty”

Hugo Campagnaro who played the second part of today’s game presented himself in the mixed zone.  Here is what the Argentinian defender said.

How did it go? We know that you are very familiar with Mazzari, you know how to read what he felt..

–       It was definitely an important test, mainly to understand at which point we stand physically.  We have finished a week of good work, we are still a bit bundled up and you could see that on the pitch, at times the plays didn’t go the way we wanted them to. After a week of work I am happy with how the team is doing.

After seven years you know everything about Mazzari, can you tell us if it takes a lot to digest his methods of work and his tactics?

–       Of course it takes some time, but having spent four years with him at Napoli you get there a little bit before, also because there were few changes in players. Here all the players are new, you need to start from scratch so it will take some time. But we have another week to work and learn the tactics the way he wants them.

Do you feel that the legs are heavy after this week? Is there anything that can create problems in these friendlies?

–       We will of course try and avoid injuries. We have had seven very tough days with workouts in the mountains and we are all tired. But we have tried to do what he asks us to do, now of course we can’t perform the things he wants us to because the head is quicker than the legs and we don’t do things on time.

Did you notice anything typical of Mazzarri’s style of play in this first game?

–       The typical thing would be that versus teams like these you have to play on their half of the pitch. Against these teams it comes easier so it is not a real test, but I did see some interesting things that I liked. The team has a lot of will to work and that is what we need.

In what moment did you notice the best things?

–       In my opinion the whole game. Especially when we tried to keep them in defense at all times. But this, I repeat was not a real test, we’ll see further on against better teams. I think that there the best things will come.

FcInternews asks him how the understanding with the teammates is going, especially the younger ones.

–       There are players with quality, some experts, others young but without a doubt very promising ones that are doing well since a year or so. In my opinion there is quality and we could do well. Last year the three man defense didn’t work very well, but surely you can do good as well as bad. It is a very good tactic and Mazzarri has had success in the past year, I hope it continues.

But did Mazzarri explain why he played the youngsters first and then the older players?

–       No, no explanation at all. He tries several styles of play, also during training. Now he is trying all the numbers to see which ones works the best to be able to give continuity.

Are you curious about Napoli without Cavani?

–       The curiosity will always be there, Cavani or not. I was there four years, so it will always be there. I’ll watch PSG to see how Cavan will play with Ibra.
