President Massimo Moratti gave an interview to Inter Channel after watching Inter train this morning and having lunch with the team.

Inter have had a steely look to them in these first few outings, which is something we can perhaps say follows in the club’s tradition. Get your defence sorted first and the rest will fall into place.

“For any team that wants to win things it’s crucial to have a solid defence. That’s something I learnt as a boy when I watched the Inter of old and it’s always been the way. Whenever Inter have won the Scudetto, the team has always been built on a defence that worked well together. And our defence is starting to work well again now.”

Whatever the critics might say, Inter have strengthened for the future over the summer, bringing in four Under-21 players – people who are ready for the first team and with a high market value. That’s a sign the club is looking to the present as well as the future.

“Yes and of course that was precisely our aim. Players who, though young, are already clearly talented and with the potential to grow even further. And I think we got it right. But when you decide to adopt a policy like that you also need a coach who agrees with it, and, more importantly, knows how to make the most out of it.”

Speaking of the coach, Walter Mazzarri seems to have won the fans over already.

“And so he should have: he works as hard as any player out on the pitch and he’s got talent to boot. In that sense he reminds me of Paul Ince. It doesn’t matter how long you stay, and Ince was only here for a year and a half, there are certain individuals who stick in your mind as great Interisti because they’re great people. The same goes for Mazzarri. He’s a hard worker who knows exactly what he’s doing and how to deal with the players and everyone else at the club.”

One thing that’s never lacking is the support of the Nerazzurri fans. It looks like the Meazza’s going to be a sell-out for Inter v Juventus.

“Quite rightly too because it’s always a highly anticipated game, and in this case we have two teams who go into it having played very well in their previous matches. It’s a game that we need to be very cautious about but of course the fans, including myself as a fan, can’t wait.”
