In an interview with TYC Sports at Argentina’s team training camp, Mauro Icardi expresses all his joy over being part of the national team. I have always waited for this moment. I have already represented Argentina at youth level, but my big dream has always been to play for the first team. Yesterday I had a problem with my luggage and because of this, I didn’t speak to any journalists when I arrived. Another passenger accidentally took my bag, but the problem is solved and everything is okay”.
Regarding the choice of representing Argentina, and thereby turning down the chance of playing for Italy: “In Italy, everyone knows that the only Italian thing about me is my passport. Hearing what Prandelli said about me makes me very proud, but I am Argentinian and I want to play for Argentina”.
Playing the World Cup in Brazil is still a dream: “We still have plenty of games left to play. I know that the reason I am here is that Lionel Messi is injured, hopefully my chance will arrive. All the strikers in the Argentinian team is of a very high quality, even on an international level. I am here to make the best of this opportunity. In Barcelona I learned playing the ball on the ground, in Italy I learned how to play against stronger defenders and also to use my head”.
