The former Inter player Dejan Stankovic is approaching his farewell to the Serbian national team and on Friday he will make his last game with when Japan comes to Novi Sad. In Japan there is Inter’s Yuto Nagatomo and when Deki talked to local media, he talked about Yuto: “I have been asked not to injure Yuto for at least the 10-15 minutes I ‘ll be on the pitch, after that I can do what I want.”
Stankovic then summarized his career and his 102 games with the national team: “The best games? Obviously the first, my debut. Then all those who have taken us to the big events, such as those against Croatia, Bosnia and Romania. Then there have also been difficult matches, like the one against Argentina which we lost 6-0.”
Had Serbia’s fate in the World Cup qualifiers been different with Stankovic on the pitch? “Probably there is much that would have been different if I could have played from the beginning. It would have meant that I had recovered from my physical problems. But I ‘m not complaining, I’ve had my career and I’ve won a lot and I’m happy with that.”
The midfielder denied that he is considering a return to The Red Star: “I think it’s too early for me to talk about a return to the Red Star . It was discussed in the summer, but it takes experience to fill a position. In my opinion Sinisa Mihajlovic should remain as coach of Serbia, he does a very good job.”
