Inter’s defender Rolando was interviewed by the newspaper Libero and talked about the first time at Inter. After initial skepticism he has taken an important spot on Walter Mazzarri’s team and the player who is on loan from Porto talked about his feelings and goals in the interview done by Matteo Spaziante.
Rolando, are you bitter after the draw in Bologna?
“Very, it was a shame because we played well and we could have advanced in the standings.”
In Napoli you struggled, at Inter you’re a starting player. What has changed?
“When I came to Italy I had not played for six months. I was in shape in March when there was not much time left, so I didn’t play very much.”
What did you think when Mazzarri wanted you to Inter?
“I was pleased because this is a great club. I thank him for saying he wanted me because it is always important that a coach has confidence in you.”
Do you think he has changed compared to last season?
“No, because he is always working to reach the top. He tries to do the same thing he did at Napoli, he did a good job there, but he needs time because it is his first year.”
Is there a spirit of revenge on Napoli?
“I don’t think so, the club helped me and I am grateful for that. I never thought about revenge.”
How is it to live in Milan?
“Other than the cold weather and the fact that I miss the ocean (laughs Ed. ), it’s very calm, you can work well without too much pressure from outside.”
Which of your teammates has impressed you the most?
“Rodrigo Palacio, in real life he is even better than he looks on TV. Ricardo Alvarez also, he does it well as a midfielder. Then we have the child, Mateo Kovacic, who is a phenomenon.”
And Zanetti?
“When I saw him on TV, they said to me ‘he’s old, he’s been playing a long time,’ but he’s like a young guy. He has treated me very well, as a friend. He is a great person.”
What impression did you get of Thohir?
“Even though he’s been here a short time, I like him. He seems to be a happy person, one who always wants to win and that’s very important.”
On Sunday he will be at the San Siro for the first time. Do you already have a gift ready?
“Even if he would be in Indonesia our gift would be a victory, that’s what we work for. It would perhaps be a greater memory for him than for us, and therefore it will be important to win.”
Are there any players you can recommend him?
“I have many friends, if he could get the whole Portuguese national team! (laughs ed.) However, I don’t want to offend anyone.”
What is missing in this Inter in order to fight for positions in the top?
” Two things: the injured players like Diego Milito and Mauro Icardi and then some more time to understand the coach’s work and ideas.”
Juan has said, “I won’t settle for third place.” Do you agree?
“I would always settle with a first place, but we must wait. If the injured players come back and nothing sensational happens, we can accomplish something significant.”
The chapter of the national team. Do you think about the World Cup?
“Of course. It has been some time when I haven’t been called but I’ve talked to the coach. To play more in the national team, I must first do well here at Inter.”
Will Cristiano Ronaldo win Ballon d’Or?
“Of course, it’s the only thing I ‘m sure of. CR7 has had a phenomenal year.”
Would you advise him to come to Milan?
“Of course, but to come to Milan to play for Inter. I think he is undoubtedly the number one.”
You are here on loan from Porto. Have you already thought about the future?
“I don’t even know what to eat for lunch, think of what to do in June. Until the end of the season, I will be here, who knows what happens next.”
