Inter keep on improving in every game they play. Now the team has reached the fourth place in the league, with eight points separating them from the third position. This is what Walter Mazzarri said to Sky directly after the game: “Are we aiming for the third place now? No, we continue to focus on one game at a time, be it home or away. We want to have a clear game plan no matter who we play against, that is the objective”.

How fundamental has Hernanes been to Inter’s recently improved form? ”I’ll repeat myself, if I wanted Hernanes to the team it’s because the club asked me what could be improved in January, and I saw him as the player who was best adapted to our way of playing. However, he can perform even better than he has so far, he is still not in top form. But his way of controlling the ball creates tranquility, a quality that we lacked”.

Mazzarri’s future? “I am sure that I will stay at Inter next season, I have a contract. Someone has changed my answer. s framtid? ”Jag är säker på att vara kvar i Inter nästa år, det finns ett kontrakt. Någon har förvrängt mitt svar. This week Fassone mentioned something about extending my contract. I just replied that there will be time for that in June, after the end of the season.. Now I have complete focus on the team, we are looking to win every remaining game. To finish the season in a certain way could set the path for greater success next year”.

In the last few games, including the one tonight, Inter has really given the impression of a team that wants to win. Againt Cagliari, to name an example, the impression wasn’t the same. ”This is the raise in quality that I am trying to implement in the team. The players are the same as the ones who finished last year in a poor way, back then they weren’t accustomed to certain details. We alwans want to attack our opponents, looking for chances to score and regaining possession as soon as possible. In the last few games, the players have proven that they’re capable of doing just that”.

A comment on Icardi’s performance? “Good effort and attitude, and that is the first step: when a player has these two things I am always satisfied. He needs to move differently in certain situations, and learn to position himself better in order to help out the team. In front of the goal he has unquestionable qualities. When Verona pressured us a little, he could have helped the team more than he did. But it’s normal, he still has things to learn because he is young”.

After the goal Mazzarri was seen making gestures to the team, what was he trying to get across to the players?  ”I don’t want to see a change in the players’ attitude, no lost focus. Until the end, even after several goals, I want the team to play as if the score were 0-0″.
