There was a long interview with Andrea Ranocchia in Corriere dello Sport, in which he speaks of the derby and more. Here are the words of the Inter defender to the Roman newspaper.

Ranocchia, what kind of derby do you expect tomorrow?
“A nice derby, one of those games that should not be played, but won. I hope that Milan once again turns black and blue.”

Would reaching qualification to the next Europa League with a win in the derby give a particular satisfaction?
“Certainly the flavor of the three points would be even more special because it would “condemn” AC Milan to not go to Europe. It would be a double victory.”

A response from a true Interista.
“I have been at Inter for three and a half years and this is my family. Beyond all the changes of ownership and coaches, I have experienced more positive emotions than negative here. I have become an Interista and now I am one.”

That sounds like the words of a player who is ready to renew the contract when it expires in 2015.
“My intention is to stay at Inter. I want to win, and succeeding with this shirt would taste even more special.”

In January, you seemed out of the Nerazzurri’s project, but now…
“Now the possibilities of staying here are absolutely better.”

When will you speak with the leaders about a renewal?
“With the club we are on the same page: we will sit around a table at the end of the season.”

Why not go to Galatasaray in January?
“We didn’t reach the economic agreement and the deal was skipped. Given what I’m doing, I’m happy that I stayed.”

Which derby do you have the fondest memories of?
“The first one last season that we won with Stramaccioni on the bench.”

What do you fear about AC Milan?
“They have a team with many strong players, but Kaka and Mario can give something more than the others.”

What is Balotelli like as an opponent?
“An attacker who can invent the play at any time. He’s strong and talented. We’ll have to keep our guard up. Being up against Mario and AC Milan gives great motivation.”

Will you be teammates in Brazil?
“I certainly hope so because I care very much about the World Cup. I want to give it a go until the end. Having participated in the internship was a satisfaction, but I have to finish the season well.”

Has the objective of Brazil helped you even in the most difficult times at Inter?
“From January to March I never played, but I’ve also worked a lot in anticipation of being called to the squad by Prandelli. I trained even in my days off to be ready when he called.”

How would you rate your season?
“Very positive because I started well and after the problems on the transfer market and the past two months out, I had the opportunity to return to play. I hope to play in the next three games on the level of the previous ones.”

And that of Inter?
“Positive , but it will be even more so when we won the Europa League qualification.”

Does that fact that you are six points ahead mean that you will be considered favorites in the derby?
“The derby is a game in itself, and even if a team is better placed it’s impossible to make a prediction. And then Milan is always Milan.”

In anticipation of next year may Inter be able to bridge the gap to Juventus?
“The gap at this time is important and it will take time to fill it.”

Conte wanted you at Juventus. How do you respond?
“It’s well known that when we worked together i Arezzo and Bari there was mutual respect, but he is at Juve and I’m at Inter.”

How is the relationship with Mazzarri?
“Good and very professional.”

Why are Inter, from February and onwards, doing better away than at the San Siro?
“Sometimes so many things happen in the player’s heads. It’s derby time, however, and this time we will play away from home, so…”

In training, how difficult is it to mark Icardi?
“It isn’t easy because he moves from the middle and forwards and knows the depth of attack.”

Recently, you created an account on Twitter. Have you asked Icardi for some advice on how to use it?
(Laughs) “Let’s say we have lives that are a little different… But he explained to me how it works.”

Next year Zanetti will no longer be there in the locker room.
“When a player that is so strong leaves it’ a severe loss, but I hope and believe that he will remain in the club with an important role. His winning mentality will be useful.”

In the past you were critical of Ranieri. Why?
“With him I had a hard time, very hard indeed. Between us there was no feeling, almost… I don’t know: in 7-8 months durin which I was at Inter he and I spoke for 32 seconds, and I played even less.”

Why should Inter fans be optimistic about the future?
“History says that Inter must always fight for the Scudetto. The project of the new owner is ambitious and the president often speaks with heart and passion. These components are enough for me to say that Inter have a great future.”
