Engineer by profession, on Sundays Bjarki Pall Eysteinsson plays the role of defender for Stjarnan, the Icelandic team that will face Inter in the Europa League playoffs. Interviewed by Gianlucadimarzio.com, Eysteinsson reveals his feelings, and reveals a secret of this team which until the last few hours was unknown to most people: “When I found out about the draw I was in awe, a mixture of happiness and disbelief. Consider what this means for us, we play in a stadium with a thousand seats, to think that in a few days we will be in a monument of football like San Siro. I’ve heard so many fantastic things about Inter. Javier Zanetti is my idol, the fans are incredible, we are talking about an enormous club. Here in Iceland we follow the Italian football very much, to face Inter is a dream.” Eysteinsson proves not to be the only one to split between football and work on his team: “I’m a professional engineer, many of my teammates are working during the week. There are those who work as a janitors at the stadium, those who help the youth club, those who work every day in the city. And not only that, many of the guys are still in school. Some at the college, others at the university… And we will play at the San Siro.” Stjarnan has exploded among web-users for their crazy celebrations: “It was a wonderful idea. We really had a lot of fun doing them, the fans were delirious, then people talked about them all over the web. My favorite? The salmon fishing and cycling human were really wonderful.” But who do you want to ask for the shirt at the end of the game? “Nemanja Vidic. He’s an incredible player, an absolute idol. I’m a fan of Manchester United. Ryan Giggs is the best for me but Vidic is a legend. I’m looking forward to playing against him.”
