Interviewed by SkySport, Inter coach Walter Mazzarri talked of the first day of the season on the pitch in Turin (0-0 was the result), and analyzed a transfer market that did not give him the much acclaimed – especially by the fans – last minute signing for the attack. There are also references to his personal and the team’s objectives, emphasizing also the importance within the team of Mateo Kovacic. Here are the words of coach WM in Andria at the launch of his book ‘The best is yet to come’ and claiming the prize ‘Mediterranean’.
RECEPTION – “Even I was surprised by the nice reception. This is a beautiful area and I’m sorry not to have had the opportunity to come so many times. I want to go back as soon as possible because the Puglia deserves it. I was pleased to be there, not to disconnect the ‘plug’ because now I can handle myself, but to distract myself because sometimes it is more helpful.”
THE SCUDETTO – “A dream? They asked me of my wins and I said that, after the Italian Cup and the Champions League with Napoli, I would like to win the league title as soon as possible, as a professional. Talking about it now, however, is premature and I don’t want to deceive anyone. we started with a winning idea, we did well in the summer, also on the transfer market. now we will focus on young people who are our heritage for the future: this is the objective.”
THE TRANSFER MARKET – “My assessment is this: the club has acted with certain parameters and I accept it all. We did well, even on the tranfer market. We have set up a competitive squad and there are motivated players. Having a lot of players can also lead to not getting the most of a few of them. We have the right number and everyone can improve in the future.”
YOUNG-EXPERIENCED – “We have the right mix, we must start from the idea that there are two teams that clashed, and if someone doesn’t play to win it can happen that you don’t see a good match. Ventura did very well with less responsibility to seek the full result. Torino’s glass, as I have already said, is half full. We’ll see how many teams will get a result at Stadio Olimpico. With the players we have, once you get to the best shape, we can play a good football.”
FREDY GUARIN – “The objective? Look, we entered into the Europa League and now everyone will have the opportunity to express themselves. If he were to deserve the trust he will enter the pitch, but I will not face anybody. He’s back in the squad of 23, the correct number for the year. The transfer market was dictated by corporate situations, I’m very glad he stayed. I’ll say no more.”
CRITICISM AFTER OLIMPICO – “This is a world in which it takes very little to get excited and depressed. Torino will be a difficult area for everyone and in the end we will evaluate. I want to see how many will be getting all three points at the Stadio Olimpico. In spite of the injury to Osvaldo and the unavailability of Palacio I’m happy. I’ve been forced to play Pablo part-time and, despite everything, I’m happy. I only want to pick up constructive criticism.”
BORINI AND LAVEZZI – “Purchases returning in January? You need to ask a professor, I’m not (laughs). The transfer market is closed, tomorrow I’m only focused on the match. God willing we will think only of football.”
BIG RIVALS – “If I think Juventus, Roma and Napoli are in front? We’re starting from the end of last season. They seem stronger and depending on the transfer market we will see… Fiorentina and AC Milan have done very well, there is also Lazio with the others. Now you can’t say anything in this regard and I want to only think about Inter, as I always have done. Eventually we will evaluate.”

funny how these genius fans wanted the coach to say bad things about his own players. every players and anyone who had known him and work with him only say good things about him but these so called fans who haven’t even meet him in person complaining about his personalities. what a superbly funny thing to see there
Kudos to you for your brave comment. I agree with you. These people who wants to fry WM for not talking shit about his players, have not clue about how to run a team or motivate people.
Exactly. Those commenting about Mazzarri’s sweet talk and mind games have no clue of diplomacy, politics or man management. They act like immature spoiled brats, so their comments should be ignored.
This is the 1st year Mazzarri got the type of players he wanted, and we will probably sign a good forward in the winter.
I can’t w8 until Mazzarri proves wrong all the h8’ers.
Talk about hypocrite, let’s see if you really loves him or not, just beware of your own words coach, trust me, many will judge you hardly and curse you much if you act are different with what your mouth is saying here. Damn, why can’t this person act more appropriate? Duh character really are permanent and really hard to change indeed.
All Mazzari said is, “im very glad he stay”. I already know what will happen in the future, unlike last few matches, he will be named as a subs, with some occasional appereance if Kova or Hernanes isn’t available or having a bad day. and in january we’ll try to sell him again. Just remember last season man, Mazzari experimented with him and manages to play in 26 match. And seriously, do you want Mazzari start Guarin over Hernanes or Kovacic ?
Nah, which part of my comment said that i choose Guarin over the other? Above, i’m not talking for the sake of Guarin and defending him LoL
He says that he’s very glad Guarin stays right? Was that different with love? LoL that’s pretty much the SAME. So let’s see if it’s a true words or just some sweet talking. If he dump Guarin much more than he use him, lots of judgement will punish WM. And i said it again, NOT that i prefer Guarin more than the others, but since WM said it himself he is glad Guarin stays a.k.a loves him, so he better utilize Guarin much for the sake of himself. Otherwise be prepared to be called as a hypocrite person dear coach sir LoL. Sigh, i truly hope that he never said that, really i do.
Your judging too much. All he said is “im glad he stay”. Its an obvious sweet talking. Because he said that doesn’t mean he obligated to play him as a starter. That’s mean he still have a role in the squad. Like i said he doesn’t get called for a match before this, now that he’s staying im preety sure that he’ll made into the bench and maybe making some appearance.
hi eroll its not about who start over who.all the three players can start together. its up to mazzari. if he is brilliant coach he should think what the best for the player and inter. just dont be too stubborn. sometimes need to change if it doesnt working. by playing 4 defender at the back we make another room in midfield and attacker position.
Nope, i just don’t see a place where he can be a starter. He’s a useful role player tho, he can be CM, he can be AM, and even SS if we’re really short on forward.
It’s hardly going to effect peoples opinion about Mazzarri, as the wast majority of the fans already despise him.
Unfortunately people always talk about Mazzarri destroying talents, but the theory hold no grounds, Mazzarri have 5 players in his preferred starting line up under the age of 25. How many more players in that age do people want in the starting line up.
We are not going to improve if we do not have experience in our team, you can’t have a team composed entirely of talents, you also need players that the talents can lean on.
Not even Strama can brag about that high a number, and he even persisted on using proven players again and again, and didn’t live up to expectation when it came to developing talents.
we have had allot of coaches that where by any means worse in this respect, but people seem to forget that.
And the fact is still that most of our talents, just don’t have what it takes, in fact I’ll go as far as saying we have less then a handful.
Well, technically speaking WM isn’t a bad coach, and all of this time what i really hate about him is his personal characters, i don’t mind so much about formations, players and so on as much as i mind his cocky self-loving behavior, blaming others but never blame yourself? Who are you to be never fails? God? LoL. Good thing i love the team, so i’m stuck with WM and i wish him luck as much as i hate his cocky self.
How that you develop that personal hatred ? ==” Everybody at Inter seems preety fine with him (Player, Board, Curva) & almost all of his player or ex player, didn’t talk bad about him. Except Cassano of course.
Not only me here i think. I choose personality first than performance. And WM simply didn’t meet my standard of personality. And i’m pretty much sure many here are agreed with me. Nobody’s perfect that’s why i’m just ask for him to be a little bit wiser, but so far his act are just keeping me for more disappointment towards him. If only his mouth is a bit wiser, take the responsibility of bad result once or twice, and so on, i would definitely love him. I said about it too many times though LoL
I don’t like his tactical rigidity as well, and obviously he’s not a risk taker. However, there’s no point in terminating his contract right now and then change coach all over again in the middle of a well organized project. The idea is to reform this team again from the scratch and create stability, thus trust to coach is essential. Indeed, WM is not a perfect coach in developing youngster, but Thohir have no choice to keep on believing the choice of Moratti. I am sure his work will be evaluated at the end of the season, Otherwise Mancini or hopefully Simone could replace WM.
You seriously want Mancini!
Mancini isn’t exactly known for his people skills, nor his ability to develop youth.
This team will regret losing Strama. Strama’s inter was the only team to get 1 point behind Juve in the last 3 years. Losing Strama has been great for Juve – nobody has been able to challenge Juve since!
Agree. Plus he plays horrible futbol
Clearly Guarin isn’t wanted anymore by Mazzari, Inter, or by majorities of the fans. He isn’t on the team lineup, we got news about ausillo try to offload him everywhere, its obvious. Can’t believe many people here jumped into Guarin bandwagon just to insult Mazzari. What do you expect him to do ? Put Guarin in a cage and demotivated him even further ?
stupid fans defending idiot coach
Good logic man, instead of attacking arguments, you choose to calling someone idiot without giving any points whatsoever. Seriously Inter must be proud have a fans like you, really really proud. Keep it up.
thanks. hahahaha
Well it’s not like WM should demote Guarin even further or else. But a coach are the highlight of the team when he spokes and the world will judge him if he’s true to his words. Now if he said he loves him but in the future he dump him, it’s fair if many people including me says that Mazzarri is a hypocrite person full of sweet talk and bullshit only right? It’ll be more wise if he said a neutral words like “According Guarin we’ll see what can we do for this season, hopefully we do well …” or something like that words whatever, are more appropriate rather than sweet talk only.
CMIIW, isn’t your the one who said Mazzari is an asshole who never say sorry. Now you said he’s sweet talker. well make your mind.
LoL, sweet talk, lip service, whatever it is, you named it, are the same rubbish as never say sorry. You said it yourself that almost every part of Inter including him want Guarin to go, so why sweet talk? Yup same rubbish. Never say sorry, self-loving, blaming others, and now add sweet talking a.k.a hypocrite to his attitude, whoa such a personality. man i really wish for him to be wiser even just a bit but it seems that won’t happen..
Wiser…?
hope this December we have, maybe, Mancini
Why Mancini of all, the man who single handedly destroyed his own career at Inter, a coach that is almost as stubborn as Mazzarri, and who has allot to prove when it comes down to delivering results in the CL.
And no he is not a step up from Mazzarri, the only reason he has a better CV is because he had better teams under his supervision. And he is hardly going to make our team more fun to watch, the last time he sat on our bench, his game plan was basically, give the ball to Zlatan.
W. Mazzarri take your hands of your balls and show some great offensiv fotboll… ! You can play with a offensiv formation contra team like Torino, Sassuolo, Cesena, Palermo, Genoa, Chievo, Sampdoria, Cagliari, verona, Atlanta and Empoli…. and bring almost 66 point….why you start with M.villa & Medel together…. play a offensiv fotboll for god sick….
Handanovic
Rannochia Vidic J.Jesus
Nagatomo kovacic Medel Hernanes Dodo
Palacio Icardi/osvaldo
And when we score 3 goals so can you take out a striker and play with M.villa and Medel together
Obviously WM happy with Guarin stay, lets hope WM will maximize his potential instead of bench him.
c’mon please stop complaint, complaint doesn’t help, lets everyone say FORZA INTER !!!
Inter fans are right to criticize WM idiot because of following reasons:
1. He has NO transfer vision. He forced Guarin to leave the club, but in the end Guarin’s transfer was stalled and he stayed. Initially Guarin had a nerazzurri heart, but since WM forced him to leave (he hinted many times that Guarin is not in his main plan), Guarin lost his motivation. Now it will be so difficult for Guarin to handle strong critics and whistle in the stadium. Hypocritical WM now says “glad to see Guarin stayed”. BULLSHIT
2. WM kills youngsters because he has no ability to develop youth. I am sure Longo, Crisetig, Romano, Biraghi, Duncan, Benassi, Bessa, Bardi will all do well in their new clubs. Look at Kovacic, he is getting well, gaining more experience and confidence. Remember, WM initially was so hesitant to play him, but everyone criticized him, and he has no way not to play Kovacic. IMPOTENCE
3. WM is too stubborn on his formation. He is committed to his 3-5-2 or 3-5-1-1. Personally, I don;’t believe that this formation is competitive against big clubs in Serie-A as long as we have super-full backs who know everything about defending and attacking. Jonathan and Nagatomo lack that ability, but WM loves Jonathan and Nagatomo very much. NONSENSE
Even Ausilio did his best this summer, my only doubt and worry is still WM. He is just an hypocritical, useless, old, dumb A-HOLE!
1. Everybody know that Inter want to sell Guarin & almost everybody agree that we should selling him as well. But when it didn’t go well, Ausillo couldn’t sell him. What the hell you expect him to do ? Put Guarin in the cage ? demotivated him even further ?
2. Oh another Interisti who overhype youngster. Longo warming up bench in Verona & Espanyol, Bardi is talented that’s why he should get first team experience because Handanovic is probably the best goalkeeper in serie-a now, Romano is in Serie-B Club, Bessa had severe injury and strugling to regain is form ever since. Duncan is a devensive midfielder whom we got so many this year.
3. At Napoli, Zuniga and Maggio is a good player but not “Super wing back” as you described. And they fly into Champions League with very cheap squad. So does Juventus, Licensteiner is an asshole & Asamoah is preety good. But those aren’t star. We don’t need big names, we just need the right player. But i agree that Jono, Ambrosio & Nagatomo isn’t good enough.
@eroll: Do not play around the bush. You digress too much. Let’s just say Forza Inter, but sooner or later you will hate WM just like me…
Because sometime fans critics is very weird. Do you really want Mazzari to use Guarin and put Kovacic or Hernanes in bench ? If you critic about tactics, he’s stubborness, i agree. I even commented about Mazzari should grow some ball and play with 4 defender sometime.
I tell you about the condition of the youngsters you stated, tell me how those young player can be usefull for Inter if they’re strugling in much smaller team and league ? Cmon give me an idea on how to infuse Longo, Bessa, on the first team.
i’m sorry that my english is not so good because i have many things to say about this man.. i don’t even talk about the coach, but the man.. he keeps for himself the good thing that happens across a season , leaving all the bad things to the team … he’s doing this regulary in his carriere…
I think its the only mistake for us the transfers this season I hope Guarin will not make trouples in the team and should realize that he is not a main player and live with it since he refused moving away its a loss his wage is too high for a sub-player
I’m not glad Guarin stayed for once reason. Not that he doesn’t have the qualities to play for us. But he’s lost all motivation to play for the club, he’ll never give his best to contribute, and probably won’t ever be given the chance anyway. He’s bad for the mentality of the whole team. I doubt he’ll be happy polishing the bench for M’Villa. And he surely has friends among the other players who will sympathize. That’s why he should have left. I don’t think Bonaventura is better then him. But he would have been way more useful.
Guarin on his twitter: “Mazzarri el personaje de personajes…” which means (i guess) the clown..
Obviously you dont know anything about rethoric and politics. rule nr one: always say what the club wants you to say. rule nr 2 :always say the opposite to what you think.
See this is the differance between a good coach and a suckass coach like WM…..he doesn’t motivate the players in the right way….if he is so glad that Guarin stayed then why wasn’t he used more regularly last season and early this season…this is bullshit….to say that Torino is difficult ground is absurd since toro hasn’t won against inter in 12 Years ! So when you go in to that game thinking like Mazzari and play in a defensive manner then you can’t expect to win either that is the signal to the team….take your hands of your balls and show some grit! Wasn’t that what you said that the team needed to show then I think that should go for you aswell!!!!!
