Four days after the closing of the transfer period, Inter’s sporting director Piero Ausilio, assesses the transfer market operated by the Nerazzurri in an interview with Inter Channel. Here are his statements over the phone to Roberto Scarpini: “I feel in good conscience and I believe the guidelines we gave were respected. The objective was to stay within the parameters, which we respected completely. I’m satisfied and calm. Let’s not forget that Inter is under the magnifying glass of FFP which has to be taken into account. We’ve reduced our signing budget, and today we’re at approximately €70 million. In Turin there were many young players born in the 1990’s. The average age of the team is 25.6, which is nearly two and a half years younger compared to previous years. The team needs time, it is young and talented, but we don’t want much, just to give the coach the chance to create a team that is hungry and that is tough for anyone to deal with. Therefore we have followed the guidelines given by the work group. The objective was to meet the parameters given and that has certainly been done.”
When asked about specific players, Ausilio stated: “When we studied the transfer market we established that Kovacic and Icardi were not up for sale and the president agreed. We never arrived into something in the terms of negotiations, I read some numbers but they were never made by us. There arrived other offers but they were not satisfactory, as in the case of Guarin. We made a move ahead of the transfer window with Vidic. The opportunity came up in January when his contract was about to expire and we made sure we didn’t let it slip away. Many people say he is a great player, but we didn’t give anyone else the chance to think about it. By early February he was already an Inter player. He has technical quality and a personality that he transmits to the team since Pinzolo. Then we started from the expiration of the contract and in accordance with the economic stakes we looked for those players who could have the characteristics we were looking for on the transfer market. With Dodo, Medel, M’Vila and Osvaldo four players have arrived that mirror our needs ant they are players that are important for the Inter’s present and future. I’m happy because we did what we had in mind. We have perhaps been too good. I try to keep a low profile but I’m not going to pass the thought that Inter didn’t do anything the last week because we’ve given the coach five important players with 15-20 working days. These aren’t flashy signings, but ones that are practical and logical for our project. Everything was done with the coach always informing the president.”
Finally, on the last hours of the transfer market: “Inter had prepared everything very well, there were two players stuck for some time, therefore we got organized. They were only waiting for a call from Inter and a contract proposal. This to me is a merit, then everything depended on us. Expressions of interest arrived for Guarin but we did not considered them valid for our project, the same for him. At the time when Guarin was taken off the market we notified the clubs involved, the last being Atalanta. Inter had Bonaventura locked, then notified and he became an opportunity for someone else. Perhaps until 8.30 pm Milan did not even know that the player was on the market. We are happy to keep Guarin, everything has been agreed with the coach, the player knew that there would be a new tactical plan for him in the event he stayed. Guarin and Mazzarri are very enthusiastic in view of the new ideas in the offensive department, already covered with Icardi, Osvaldo and Palacio, to which I add Puscas and Bonazzoli. We don’t speak of opportunities if you don’t give these guys not even a glimmer of succeeding. Thohir has always been informed of everything, including the situation of Bonaventura. We think that the team should be balanced, the coach wants motivated players in his team, in which everyone feels important. It’s a fair number which means that everyone can feel involved in the project and have the opportunity to play. The goal was to close with a list of 25 players, taking into account the possibility of keeping Mbaye, who ended up on the UEFA B-list, also makes us comfortable. The balance is in the numbers and logic, we are covered in defense and midfield but also in attack. You don’t measure the ability of the offensive unit based on the number of players you have.”

I have been highly critical of Inter transfer markets in the past but this market was great. We had a plan and stuck to it. No more last minute panic buys that have later ramification (abandoning Rolando and Bonaventura.)
We had a plan and stuck to it. I read about Inter financial situation and how it improved but we are still 100M behind Juve and 400M behind Real Madrid in terms of revenues. That needs to improve, even if it meant some sacrificing.
Fantastic jobe done by Ausilio. Keep up the good work and sign a fast young offensive player in winter that has a great technique! Think of Thauvin/Firmino/Shaqiri.
Good point. It has also become evident to me that Thorir’s staff conduct themselves in a business like manner. It is as if they are preparing to transform Inter into a stock company. I don’t mind this.
Too all the comments about Guarin, I agree he is best in an attacking role. With the likes of Medel and the rest of the wrecking crew, our precarious Guarin, if Mr Mazzarri choses so, may have some freedom in attack.
Good luck Inter!
Some inter fans still dwell on the past( me included), but as ausilio explains things it’s more evident that they have a clear project that the fans and the club itself can really relate to. It’s satisfying to see how inter is moving forward and getting better, given our limited financial capabilities.
Then it’s settled, Guarin Will play in attack until Osvaldo and Palacio is fully recovered and if a good offer should arrive in January Guarin will be sold….win win for Inter and the player….so just that scumbag Kuzmanovic left to kick out and we can see a quality team taking shape….
We are happy to keep Guarin, everything has been agreed with the coach, the player knew that there would be a new tactical plan for him in the event he stayed. Guarin and Mazzarri are very enthusiastic in view of the new ideas in the offensive department, already covered with Icardi, Osvaldo and Palacio, to which I add Puscas and Bonazzoli
good job aussolio n danny ! keep love inter whatever it takes
Good work.
Two things that kinda annoy me: why keep Rolando waiting with high hope and abandon him? Here I feel an acknowledgement or apology to Rolando is necessary.
Guarin will be a real pain. We should try everything to unload him early. He is becoming insane in my observation and cast shadow to the whole team.
I have said this many times, but Ausillio and his men have done an OUTSTANDING job this summer! getting quality players in for all most free and letting deadwood leave (and yes I consider Ricky as a non-Inter-quality-player, and not young anymore so he’ll never be an Inter-quality-player!), without selling any of our presious players like; Handa, JJ, Kova, Icardi…
Now the plan is getting Guarin to play as he did last year at the same time! He was great for a 2-3 months playing behind the strikers in a free role working the right flanke with Jonathan – they did well together back then!
this kind of two way communication is really good for the fans and the club itself. It shows how the management really commit themselves to bring all the fans together in this project, now we all know what really happened back then and what are we looking for. Personally, I kinda like our mercato because when i look in our condition, actually we are not that bad. We are comfortable enough from the post to midfield. The only problem is if one of our main strikers get injured, we dont have the answer to solve the problem. Puscas and bonazzoli are too young to be relied on, to put too much pressure on them is a risky step, and it will only end up ruining their development, we need to integrate them to the team step by step. But, i am also delightful we don’t make sloppy move like let guarin go with cheap and go after some random strikers.
Ausilio did a great job, compared to financial opportunities we have. But I still can’t understand, how he, Mazzarri and Thohir can consider that we need mediocre players like Bonaventura and Borini. I want to believe that already there is no chance to sign Borini through winter transfer window, when we probably will look for forward and eventually creative midfielder.
I am pretty happy with Ausilios work. Economically it made sense for sure. There is only one move I can’t understand. Why did Botta leave??? We are short in attack and Botta was ready to be at least as a great sub. He doesn’t cost much, so why let him go. On the other hand, now WM this scary sissy will be forced to use Bonazzoli or Puscas from time to time and he will learn that young players can do good as well!!!
I agree. I see this club building and getting stronger from the top management down and from the bottom up. Everyone has a clear purpose and its all about making Inter a bigger, stronger, and healthier club both for now and looking forward. Recognizing this as fans should be a sign to us that our club is heading in the right direction and it is now our job to stand by them and support, even if we have to be patient at times when things don’t always go perfectly…I’m an Inter fan for life so I want to see this club grow and succeed but building back up the right way does not happen in the blink of an eye. We have to trust the work that is being done.
I agree totally with you.
Absolutely agree…. Forza Internazionale….
Its great that Inter give quite detailed interview about what happen in the transfer. Another interesting move by Thohir to provide us this kind of information. But im not really sure, There’s must be a reason why club are very close about their transfer. Since almost everybody in the business are very closed about transfer, even when the transfer windows over.
I do like that there seems to be a better communication and transparency within management than previously, but also towards us fans through official Inter-media like Inter TV and Inter.it.
During the years before Tohir came, not many fans could mention members from management other than Branca, Ausilio, Fassone, Facchetti and one or two others. The official statements we have seen last couple of months for the newly appointed directors within management, gives us fans, the players, the manager and other effected people the confidence to trust that there is some clear goals for the project for Inter. Which we can hopefully reach and we now know who and who is responsible for what for us to reach those goals. The great CV of those new recruits in management are quite impressive, they have worked for some of the biggest companies and clubs in the world.
So what I want to say is within the management is seems promising, hopefully that will drip down to the coach and players more and more.
Some bad grammar and misspelling, the browser crashed two times and I just posted it in a hurry.
