New debut on the Inter bench and it is a derby straight away for Roberto Mancini. At the end of it, it finishes 1-1 and the Inter coach has this to say right after the game to Sky.
“The derby games are always difficult, and so it was today as well. I am very happy with how the team looked on the pitch, because changing the formation they have played with the last year and a half was not easy. I don’t think I can change a team in five days, it will take time. But our goal remains the same, to win as many games as possible even though we aren’t at a 100%. What needs to change? To score when we have the chance. For the rest, the mistakes were conceivable, they happen. We wanted to win.”
You need someone who can play in front of the defense and control the play; is there such a player in the squad or do you need to buy one?
“We have injuries as well as players who just got back this week. M’Vila can play there, he has the qualities but he needs to get in the shape to do so. Just like Hernanes that wasn’t even supposed to sit on the bench..We need to get better defensively and also in offense, in attacking the spaces.”
How far off are the players to learning the new system, especially in defense?
“It will take some time, even though in the national teams they play in a back four. A bit of difficulty is fine, it is normal. I don’t know how much we need to work. In the area we need to mark (man-man), the rule is always the same; there is no zone defense (he says while watching the goal the Inter let in).”
Regarding Kovacic, will he go back to play internal midfield or continue on the left wing?
“He is young, he should not be too pressured. He needs to commit some errors, if not he won’t grow. He needs to learn and there is work to be done. I think he can play trequartista or on the wing in attack. He needs to understand that he canät have eight touches on the ball, to play simple, to cover in defense. We need to work on it.”
And Guarin?
“I am happy with his performance. We often lost the ball when it was in our possession, and this should not happen, but that is his role. He can do others as well, but his position is internal in midfield.”
And that third place.
“I have said that we can’t go aiming for third place, but now we are in this position and we’ll see where we are in January.”

i think it’s funny how he said he couldn’t change the team in 5 days but instead took a bold decision to play kovacic in more lefty position. i don’t like the idea, and i even think that is stupid one. but i’ll see what he can do and what kova will be under him
Mancini definitely has his eyes set on that 3rd spot, but he doesn’t want to put pressure on the players right away, smart guy.
Improve: “But also in offence, attacking in the spaces.” That is exactly what I’ve been missing.

M’Vila is still out of shape…How much weight did he gain in Russia? Still too fat. By the time he gets in shape the season is over.
i think he was referring to his latest injury, he just got back to training after a fairly long stop so normally he has to get in playing condition before he gets a start because i doubt he would have 90 minutes in him
No he is still too heavy AND he is not match fit. Hernanes for example is only not match fit. See the difference?

I am still questioning his decision not to enter osvaldo earlier. I believe he can do better than icardi
kova cant play in central midfield because he cant defend. i agree with mancini 100% when he wants to use him on the wing/ attacking mid.
He did really well with strama as DMF though. He can defend but his stamina is low, he cant defend once stamina is reaching its limits.
he can play central midfield, that is his original position, but he needs 2 powerhouses next to him (2 of Guarin-Medel-M’Vila) so he can fully concentrate on building up attacks
but his passing isnt as good. even kuzmanovic his passing is better. what deeplying playmaker has average passing and amazing dribbling? he could grow in a beast if he learns to play more advanced imo
Overall I like the way he’s speaking. But I don’t think that Kovacic can play on the left wing, that way we waste his qualities. I don’t think either that his spot is as a trequarista, he doesn’t have finishing instinct and it’s not a good shooter. I believe that his role is deep lying playmaker, where he can find more space. Other thing that i don’t like is zone defending by the corners and set pieces, i think that we have to use mixed personal coverage with few guys who use zone coverage. I like that Mancini talked about fast attacking football and i think that we’ll need real wingers for that, someone like Konoplyanka.
