According to Alfredo Pedulla, the commentator at Sportitalia, the renewal of Mauro Icardi was top priority until a month ago, and now stalled. “Inter was working to prolong his contract until 2019, raising his salary up to two million plus bonuses, while mauro at that time was discussing other things, including image rights and so on, It all seemed ok, but then it all stopped, There are various reasons, one is the arrival of Mancini, The new coach doesn’t value Icardi that much, maybe he will not play all the time which worries him, So he decided that in a few months will take a final decision on his future, Inter could continue to focus on Mauro, as well sacrificing him to make cash investments and get the team closer to the technical design of Mancini, and that of course if Icardi fell in the pecking order, All to be determined, It’s an open situation, with the contract extension stuck for now.

Or maybe its just the fact that his contract expires in 2018 and they dont want to pull another Guarin..
Im the one who loves Icardi. he is my favourite Player by inter but i dont know what sometimes are going to happening whit him. he is an fine striker but than he is one game very clumsy and so on
Oh well, I guess if he’s no longer wanted by the coach there’s no point in keeping him. I would have Mancini adapt to the best players he has himself, but there’s more than one side to that coin.
No point in keeping him for the sake of it. I just hope we invest the money we get well if he happens to leave.
Still believe he can grow into one of the finest strikers in the world.
That’s wrong way. You can’t buy and sell players every transfer window according wishes of every coach. Mazzari used three man defense and wing backs, now Mancini use four man defense and requires for a wingers. What’s gonna happen if somehow Mancio fails miserably and we decide to sack him? We’ll start all over again with new coach and new requirements. You can’t change players all the time, because every coach have different vision. My understanding is that club have to set frame and every coach have to fit in.If for some reason Mancini doesn’t want to play Icardi at all, our management must find solution, sending him somewhere on loan to play regularly or something else. But not selling bim, because he have to be part of future Inter backbone with JJ and Kovacic a d probably Dodo. I don’t know what’s the problem with Icardi, but he’s still our goalscorer with 7 goals in Serie A and 4 in Europa League and he’s 21 years old. What’s gonna happen if Mancini decided that he don’t want to use JJ and Kovacic, sell them too?
I know mate, I’m all for Icardi sticking around and growing with us, I really think that he’s got the potential to grow into a world class player and provide the backbone of the team along with the others.
Mancini also confirmed today that he holds Icardi in very high regard, knows his potential etc. but that he should improve because he’s not good enough yet – nothing wrong about that. (I would be bothered by it if Mancini came right in and said “I don’t like Icardi – get him out and get me someone else” – but he doesn’t seem to be doing that after all – most of this ratchet is the work of Italian media).
Now, I hope Icardi doesn’t take that personally. It would be arrogant of him to think that he’s indispensable (he is a bit of an attention whore by the looks of it). It should come as normal to him that he’s benched from time to time, especially if Osvaldo is playing well. I hope this doesn’t cause him to opt out of the renewal and force a transfer. IF he does that, though, I’d rather cash in on him and invest the money wisely than pointlessly try to indulge him. Keeping Icardi shouldn’t be the goal, it should just be the means to a higher goal.
That said, I do believe he will stay, because I don’t think there’s a club bigger than Inter at this time that could guarantee him a starting spot. People have been talking about Atletico, but that’s ridiculous because he will in no way bench Mandzukic; another set of rumors linked him to Chelsea, and I don’t even want to comment on how impossible that is right now.
Agree with you. The only difference is that i think Mancini have to play with two real forwards now, according me Osvaldo and Icardi are in better shape than Palacio. Not requires every game sacrifices from Kovacic and Palacio and force them playing like wingers. What’s the problem to play 4-3-1-2 with diamond in the midfield to the end of the season, when he clearly sees that we don’t have wingers in squad?
No idea, I believe he’s evaluated the situation 🙂
It has been 2 matches since Mancini took over. Icardi played in both as a starter against Milan and a sub vs Roma. But we’re eleventh in the table, he has every right to evaluate the situation. I believe he’ll renew if we return to winning and get that CL spot.
