Well, today was a historical day for D.C. United fans and for Thohir himself, as the deal to build their own stadium is done, the new stadium which is scheduled to open in 2017 will have a capacity of 20,000 to 25,000 seats with a budget of over $300 millions.
Author’s opinion: Now for the important part, yes it still needs to be built, but no one involved with D.C. United had ever gotten this far along. Hats off to thohir, he is working hard for inter too, so let’s kick the red scum out of the San Siro, cut the capacity and start making revenues!

If I were the city council, I will think twice to let Inter and Milan build their own stadium. The reason is so simple, cause Giuseppe Meazza Stadium have a great history and as a landmark on the competition between Inter and Milan. To be honest, the great landmark in Milan (for me at least) are Duomo, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. That’s a great potential sources to absorb tourist and football fans.
Anw, I will support both of use Giuseppe Meazza Stadium and get ride off Milan or build a completely a new stadium. Because the reason is more economical aspect that only owning our own stadium. Considering business and league infrastructure is become fundamental in modern football. Hope one day each of italian club have their own stadium, so Seri A can became top three league in the world. 🙂
kinda like RFK Stadium in DC… reason why the city council didn’t wanna let DCU move out was cause it’s a landmark with history and now that they’re gonna leave it’ll be empty unless El Salvador or the US Men’s National Team come and play
Really? I don’t know about that. Thanks mate for the information. 🙂
Well, personally I dont mind sharing stadium with Milan.. How about sharing the expence of a New stadium/ modernising the meazza. As long as it belongs to the clubs. I dont see the revenue lovered for inter, due to sharing. I think it’s part of a great tradition and something that makes the derby even more exciting. I think it would be a unique and great solution (and cheaper to) What do you think, am i missing something?
Well… revenue from the stadium doesn’t only come from game day tickets. There is also, club memberships, restaurants, museums, fitness centers, events, conferences. A whole bunch of extra things that generate a lot of extra money. Having a partner would just make much more difficult to coordinate this type of development (especially if your partner is your city rival). Stadiums cost a lot of money. You need a solid development plan to get the money back ASAP. So, I don’t think it would make to build a new stadium and share it with Milan. It is like buying a house with your ex spouse just to save money on the loan payment. It spells disaster. 🙂
True, but I think it should be possible for the two clubs to maintain a professional approach and split all costs, as well as revenue even. But you are probaply right, there must be an underlying economic reason.
most spanish, british and germany club have their own stadium. this model should be applied also in italy. generate more revenue
