Materazzi India May 2014

Marco Materazzi made an interview with Sport Bild addressing his coaching career till now and dreams to come:

“I have a responsibility towards my family, I don’t want them to experience what I did when I was young, my father was a coach and we had to change cities constantly which was not good for the family, but of course I want to work once in a big league.”

Do you think about a coaching career in the Bundesliga?

“I want to coach in the Bundesliga, Italian football is corrupt up to the stadiums, Juventus arena is old and empty and there is violence and rioters which have no chance in Germany because there are stadium bans for troublemakers.”

“The Bundesliga is next to the Primera Division in Spain and the Premier League in England, among the top three leagues in Europe. The conditions in Germany are shining since the 2006 World Cup. Otherwise we would not have seen Pep Guardiola go to Bayern or Germany becoming world champions in 2014, it was all a plan.”

But you refused an offer to play there before?

“Yes, my manager told me that he had a request from Kaiserslautern, but at that time I did not want to move away from Italy, at that time, if you’re not playing in Italy, you were out of sight and won’t play for the national team.”

“After our victory in Berlin I had so many opportunities to go to other clubs, and would earn twice or three times more there, but I stayed with Inter and we won everything at the end.”

Are you proud of your career?

“Yes. And If I was faster, I would certainly have won the Golden Ball as the best player in the world.”

The Zidane incident?

“It happened out of the emotions. That’s life. This can also happen during playing, of course it was a mistake, just like Zidane’s behavior was wrong, but it can happen you need to know one thing. I always want to win for fun, money do not drive me in football.”

“We talked about things that only he and I knew, in the end, he stretched out his hand and I held it tight not letting go sooner, until he looked me in the eyes, it was beautiful for me. How was it for him, I do not know.”
