Inter boss Roberto Mancini found time to say a few words about his side as he attended the coach of the year awards today.

Mancini was first asked about the future of his Nerazzurri side: “Can Inter fight for the Scudetto next year? We aim to be competing with Juventus, Napoli and Roma. I’m confident because we’re doing well and have an excellent foundation.”

“The lads are getting better and growing all the time. Our goal is to return to the top. I have a contract with Inter, we’ve embarked upon a great project and need to continue down this path. There are three months to go until the end of the season, so the coming matches will be decisive,” explained Mancini.

There was also a word on the club’s upcoming Europa League round-of-16 clash against Wolfsburg: “It’s going to be two very tough matches. I congratulated my players on how they played yesterday against Napoli – it wasn’t easy but if we’d been more alert we could’ve made more of our momentum late in the game.”

“I’m pleased with the draw, but the best thing is that the team mentality has improved no end since I arrived. We don’t wait for our opponents to come onto us and even when things are tough we try to play football. That’s fundamental,” declared Mancini.

Mancini finished with a comment on Mauro Icardi: “He’s improved a lot in the last two months. He’s a key player for us because he’s scoring regularly and will do that for his whole career. He’s working hard and will become a top striker.”
