Former Inter coach and current Napoli coach Rafa Benitez was interviewed by France Football. And as always when possible he took the opportunity to attack Massimo Moratti:
“I arrived after the team had won everything. There were great players in the team but I knew it needed new players because there were many 30 year olds in the team. Before signing I spoke to president Moratti who promised me several reinforcements. But after I had signed the players I requested did not arrive.”

The worlds most fortunate coach, took over a team at liverpool, won the Champions League with it on the back of Steven Gerrard, then as he took over the transfers ruined the squad year on year. Came to Inter, took over the best counter attacking team in the world who had just won everything, didnt push hard enough to sell some of these 30 year olds who he complains about here to raise the cash to buy the players he wanted. How can he expect to get these new players in if he doesnt push to sell the ones he had. I remember we got huge bids for Maicon, Sneijder, Lucio among others but he didnt want to sell them.
Then he took the worlds best counter attacking team and tried to make them play as a possession side with a high backline! There was no slow transformation of the tactics, it was simply, I am better than Mourinho, I wanna stamp my mark on his team so he doesnt claim credit for my success so I will change our system, despite none of the players being suited to that style. It was disasterous.
Then when it was all going wrong he did was he has done at Valencia, Liverpool and every other club he has been at when things go wrong. He blames the chairman for his problems. For all those apologists just remember the way the players were under Benetiz at Inter. They hated him. They struggled with his style, they thought he was stubborn and they didnt like how he tried to erase all that they had achieved under Mou.
I thank God every day that we got rid of him!

he’s right, we never gave him a proper chance to manage his own team, inter asked him to manage mou’s team, maybe and just maybe he put down mou’s pic in order to gain team’s attention at the time, that it was him in charge not mou anymore
at that time no one can fill in the hole mou had left, we were in the dreamland while mou went to RM we still trapped in madrid, again, maybe rafa tried so many thing to woke us up that mou’s era was over and it’s a new inter without mou, including the infamous mou’s pic incidents
After Mou, Rafa clearly was the better replacement and has the right experience to bring the team forward as European elite. But then i guess MaMo was still a bit hangover after 45 years and seems to have lost heart when his lover Mou left to find another suitor. So, when MaMo had sobered up the next day he read what Rafa said in the paper last night and fired him. Now that was the beginning of mistake which lead to Inter from glory straight down spiraling back to earth with backwards mentality replacing Rafa with medicore coaches that often readily changing the winning mentality and tactics to their own demise.

I didn’t hate him, I CURSED him… He came and enjoy Mourinho’s legacy (i mean the best squad in the world at that time) he earn his golden oportunity to play in very crucial match (vs Atletico in Super Europa, if we won this we can match barca’s 6 trophies in a year). You know what he did…??? He play the dumbest football of all time, Atletico teach us football, they teach CL winner how to play football.
So how the hell all of this can be so wrong…??? He play high defensive line like he did on L’pool and Atletico eat us alive. I saw Zanetti face in that match, those expressions tells he can’t believe that the team play like F***ing Siena, Forlan outplayed the best defenders at that time…… This guy broke my heart so bad….
If you already have the best squad in the world, you don’t need anything else… Just keep it going like it used to be and everything will gonna be fine… I can tell he ruin Mou’s legacy, and if i need to point who behind Inter’s downfall, i’ll said him.

i don’t totally agreed with most of your comment here. The game vs Atl. Madrid came at a very difficult moment for Inter. They already lost their winning coach, that have been like a leader on and off the pitch for them, Mou has this tendency of being very direct and in doing so, many players were sort of “would-die-for-Mou” mentality, only Balo was brave enough tried to be the rebellious boy back then. When they won the treble, it’s obvious most players are overtired and out of gas. Furthermore there’s the 2010 World cup to compete. Players like Sniejder, Milito, Lucio, and the gang were overused during the course of almost two seasons to complete the memorable treble.
We all can see how the players reacted to Mou sudden but expected departure, hardman like Matrix even seen crying. And when a new coach like Rafa came, of course he doesn’t bring in his own tactics that differs from the previous one, but also bringing his very own views and game perspective and approach for the team. Inter and MaMo should have not act too quick just to save their faces but act intelligently and give Rafa to have his own team. But as history tells us, MaMo was a finger-itching owner and most of the time very much sided with the Curva whom still desperately clanged to Mou’s moment. If this Club wants to move forward, they cannot simply follow their own heart but also think long term as well as short term way/solution to achieved like that Treble moment once more.
He can be useful until he try to change Inter with his version and it’s failed so bad.. I can’t believe he tried to change Inter’s identity with his experimental tactics.. Everything gone in single flush…

The players were overused, for example sneijder played (i think) every match in the world cup until the final, whats wrong trying to use your own tactics? should he have copyed mou’s? the squad wasnt the best at that time it was the best squad with mou, the players lost their hunger to win something and their form was getting lower and lower, benitez didnt always choose the best solutions but he would have been a lot better if moratti selled the old players ( i remember when we had a 50million bid for etoo and a fucking 40million bid for sneijder, but in the end we selled them for 15 i think and 20) and buyed him the right ones.. and after mou he didnt buyed the players the coaches asked until the end of his period as the president ( every mazzarri reinforcement was the plan b c or d)
Basically he has no freedom when he given the most complete squad at his disposal…
