Roberto Mancini is not trying out any tactical schemes to be used against Atalanta in Sunday’s season opener at the moment. The coach first needs to see which players will be available for the game, Guarin and Hernanes are on their way back after muscular injuries. Should both of them miss the game then it is most likely Marcelo Brozovic who will play as a trequartista behind Jovetic and Icardi. That means the midfield will consist of Medel, Gnoukouri and Kondogbia.

Sorry Guarin haters, but unfortunately for all of us, he’s the most creative player in the squad. I’d rather see him behind the strikers. And for people wanting Jovetic as AMC I don’t think he nearly has enough defensive contribution that Mancini is seeking.

Hernanes is SLOW, in running, in passing, and in reading the game. He has good shooting skills, but it’s worthless when he could not pass the player in front of him to open up the space.

I think we have gone from one step forward to two steps backwards. I can’t seriously think that we are even able to dream achieving champions league position with this group of players. Only think that seem to be somehow in order is our new centre-backs, our goalkeeper and these two forwards (when jovetic is in full match fit) – after that all of our fullbacks are mediocre, and I know that Medel is a warrior and brozovic might be good some day but these two guys are not going to get us to battle scudetto or 2-3 place. And that is as simple as that there is 3-5 teams ahead of us.
